My Tomtom Go 510 is proving to unreliable as it locks up on an increasingly regular basis and sometimes takes umpteen efforts to unfreeze it. I'm looking to replace it with a new unit (with bluetooth). Any recommendations/experiences/advice?

Thanks.

Having had TomTom for a few years I'll be trying Garmin next time around.

I've also used Garmin for many years but for walking and their kit is excellent. I'm not sure why then I bought the TT for the car. I guess I was swayed by the slick marketing.

I have the same tom tom as you & mine keeps locking up/freezing (good job i've got command as a back up:)).

Garmin for me. Far more reliable than Tom Tom I think (cheaper too)...

Hi I brought a Tom tom 520 that started freezing then packed up completely after 18 months, as repairs are so expensive I upgraded to a Tom tom 730T and after approx 18 months this too has just died I certainly won't buy another Tom tom
Will try Garmin next time

Garmin

I've had several Garmins over the years and fround them brilliant, easy to use and reliable.
I only had 1 problem with the display on one of the earlier ones(faint permanent white line) phoned Garmin and they said take it back to Halfords who replaced it.
Garmin have been supplying satalite navigation to the aviation industry for about 30 years whereas Tom Tom are the new boys in town!
I use them professionally too approx 10 times a day so they have had plenty of use!

TomTom, had a couple over the years, all good.

Agreed.

Proper, decent, obvious routing, the routes you would choose yourself when you know the area.

Garmin routing is absolutely horrible in the UK.

TomTom's just feel clunky to me.

Navigon is just slick.

I've had a TomTom 910 for nearly 5 years now I think, the only problem I've had with that is that occasionally the light sensor (which automatically switches between day/night views) gets a bit confused and you have to select manually. I'd happily have another TomTom; HD Traffic looks excellent too.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm tempted by the Garmin 1390T, but unsure about the street naming feature. I liked my old Tom Tom which gave you advance warning of when to turn (e.g. "take the 3rd left"), but as I understand with Garmin, the system instructs you to "turrn left into Acacia Avenue" - which is fine if Acacia Avenue has a street sign....Have I got the right or the wrong end of the stick?

Would welcome clarification on this before I purchase one that doesn't suit me.

Thanks to all.

Better TomToms tell you both the turning and the road name ... my 910 does this.

E.g. "At the roundabout take the 3rd exit, High Street".

get a jailbroken iphone, installous and the free copy of tom tom.

it's my back up for when i'm not in my car.
