Started the car Ok this morning, then one minute down the road the dash goes red and battery symbol appears. As I was playing guitar in church I just pressed on. A couple of hours later after the service the car starts fine, then again one minute in the red dash and battery symbol again.

Surely if the battery had enough juice to start why the light, I'm confused.

A picture of the message would be useful as it can indicate issues with the battery, alternator or something else...

No message just a box with + and - symbols in top left and top right in the main speedo dial which is red, just the same as when you drive off with the parking brake on.

What does the manual say?

Sounds like its a low voltage warning.

Popped in to the local MB dealership (or should I say stealership), advisded that it would need an hours diagnostics to find the problem, but may require perhaps another three hours diagnostics, then adds that their hourly rate is £150, Thanked him for the info, and since it seems to start OK, I'm currently attempting to charge the battery as much as possible ready for a trip to Brighton tomorrow, to my brother-in laws garage.

If it stops en-route then the RAC can take me the rest of the way, since that's what I pay my subs for.

What does your manual say?

I still reckon it's a low voltage warning

Go to electrictian who diagnoze alternator. I went to shop where they had refubnished and they had knowledge how to check and replace. From 2 years no battery symbol appears on dash.

The end result was a faulty alternator, which is what I suspected, so my credit card is now in intensive care :-(
