Took my 300sl 1992 out for a maiden run today first time in 5 months and a little disappointed.I have been starting the car every 2 to 3 weekends with no problems.
Out on the run the oil light came on the oil level is good, oil pressure 3.5 but cuts out to 0 then the red light comes on over 2.5 thousand revs and when easing off the throttle the red light goes off in the pressure gauge at around 2 thousand revs.
Thinking it maybe oil pressure censer,or a good oil flush.
Any other ideas out there guys

Sounds like an oil pressure sender packing up, I would change it if I was you. had a similar fault years ago on a 190 that I had, fitted a new sender and it was fine

No luck herby, tried it out again with the new sender exactly the same.
Revs goes up to 2500 and red light comes on the oil gauge ease of the throttle and the oil pressure goes back to normal.
Anyone else has ideas ?

Could be a bad earth connection on the sender/engine.

Could the filter be clogged or even breaking up, restricting the flow at higher revs?

If it is the oil pump does that mean engine out ?
Anyone know ? starting to worry it could be expensive if it is the pump :(

possibly a faulty capacitor on the instrument cluster . Apparently a few similar problems on the R129 according to "another" forum.

Would you believe it when i had the car it was serviced and i checking the car before i bought it the oil level good and clear. So this red pressure light doing my head in so oil flush new oil filter and new oil to change but when i was changing the oil filter i notice the filter on the car was about one and a half inches smaller in length then my new one. So think that may have been the problem.
The idiots put the wrong filter on it when they serviced it reducing the oil flow. All working fine now no red light no more. HAPPY DAYS :thumb:
