whats the service history like?
how old is the car?
is it mechanically in a good state?
whats the mileage?
any issues with EML or alike of late?
Are the brakes fresh and up to the job?
what do you want to remap for - economy? performance? top speed? fun?
too many factors to consider by saying 'Is it safe to remap'? Safe is soo subjective, but have a play around with the above and see where you stand.
Do you want an off the shelf or a custom rolling road map bespoke to your car?
The more you push the tolerance envelope in search of torque and power, the greater the chance of component(s) failure.
As the colonel says its a case of what do you want?....personally I wanted more low down torque not just top end..... my car is fully serviced / looked after so i think safe!
very happy with a remap that provided exactly what I asked for...
Speak to a reputable remapping specialist......there are people on here....then make your own decision
I recently purchased a tuning box for my c220 cdi, it's great well worth it. I considered changing my car but as i only had it 12 months would have lost too much money. Well worth the £350 for the box. Much better power delivery and economy. The bonus is I no longer want to change the car.
As long as its mechanically decent, I dont see any problems - the advantages of remapping a car outweighs the disadvantages imo. My 1.9tdi MK5 Golf went from 105 to 150bhp and also has 269 lb of torque. Been that way for 1.5 years with no problems whatsoever *touch wood*
