If I buy a 2nd hand remote control key, have a new key blade cut, remove the imobaliser chip, could the remote be synchronised with car to lock and unlock, then use chip from cloned key, stick in in remote, would it start car.
Clutching at straws here !!!!!!!!!!!

Swapping the chip and a new blade cut would start the car but the central locking wouldn’t work from the 2nd hand remote fob.

I presume you arte talking about the flip out remote fob?

What car and what year?, if you have a non-working remote it may be possible to repair it.

You cannot "clone" a key, MB or a specialist in MB keys is the only way.

Sorry, did not put that very well.
I meant that I will get a valet key from MB or have a valet key "cloned" by a decent locksmith.
The bit about remote was me clutching at straws. As MB do not do key for ML270, the only place I could find would cost me about £400 including travel.
It's just in case I lose the one remote key I have or it ceases to function.
Sorry if thread was a bit confusing

MB must be able to order you a key. I ordered one for the SL (r230) came in a week. about £200 fully coded to the car.

Appears not. Tried to Mercedes dealers, both said same, key is discontinued. Only place I could find to supply one was a place in Birmingham, but have to have car there. £200 for key plus fuel from south coast plus a whole day.
Hence I think just a valet key will do, unlock doors, start engine and drive. Does not matter about remote functions in an emergency.

just to update, have ordered a key from Mercedes, valet key, cost is £34 all in. all they needed was VIN code and index to order, and had to see the V5 and proof of address.
When key arrives, have to take car along for handover, and they take a photo of the chassis plate.
It will open the drivers door, and start and drive the car. In normal operation it would set the alarm off until put in ignition, however, as my alarm does not work, its not a problem.

That’s a good result, its good to have a back up for peace of mind; hopefully you may never need it.

Hi All
Just to finish this, picked up key yesterday, it unlocks drivers door, and starts car, you have to then lock other doors with button on consul, then lock drivers door. It works fine and is good for a spare key in emergency. It was cheaper than having one made at the local Timpkins key place, they wanted £60, this was £34 direct from Mercedes.
Sometimes, just sometimes it pays to go to main stealer !!"!!

Cheers

How long did it take, from order to delivery?

Ordered it last Wednesday, paid at same time, they phoned Tuesday this week to say at dealership. Collected it yesterday.
I do not think that's too bad.

That all you need, good value too.
