I have the ME app installed but the remote starter feature is not enabled, I believe this is because it’s not set up on my car, has anyone fitted a after market device to get this enabled as I would like to get this set up on my 2015 CLS if possible

It has been suggested in other threads that the remore start option in not available in the UK because it's illegal to leave the car unattended with the engine running.

As for third-party remote start device, I am not familiar with it, though if you do fit one then I suggest you make sure you inform your insurer.

Not on private property though? Seems a bit silly MB disables it when most people would be using it parked in their driveways :)

Unlimited range on the mobile version... I have heard of some using it to warm up their car once their flight has landed ;)

But there would be nothing stopping people living in flats and parking in the street from using this feature...

(Plys, a private property is not actually exempt from traffic laws unless public access is controlled by physical barrier)

but there’s nothing stopping them turning the key and getting out ;) surely Mb should fit some kind of auto- shutdown system if the car detects no occupant then?

Not trying to argue btw MJ, just find this interesting and would appreciate your thoughts.

As said, it has been discussed... you don't have to actually be sitting in the driver's seat, instead you have to be 'in control' of the motor vehicle, which is a bit vague I know, and it is also why remote parking is OK. So apparently being in the immediate vicinity of the car is fine, but leaving the car unattended is not...

Interesting!

A very very long time ago I had a Clifford alarm with remote start and turbo timer the car would start from the remote but the alarm remained active hit the window or use the key in the door etc engine would stop and alarm would trigger.

Well there's no need for clever tech, many people do this during the winter months, i.e. start the car and let it warm-up while they sip their morning coffee in the kitchen. Apparently it's illegal, even if the car is locked. But to each his own.

(Personally I wouldn't do that, forget the legalities, it's simply bad for the engine to idle when cold....)
