I need to remove the larger of the two rear seat backrests of my 2015 E400 Coupe (= "W212"?), in order to repair some stitching. It looks fairly straightforward...the backrest obviously rotates around a horizontal “pin” at its base. At one end of the pin, in the middle of the car, I can see a black metal bracket which is attached to the vehicle floor by a hexagonal-headed bolt. No problem there, but there’s nothing obvious at the at the other end. It looks like the pin must protrude from the seat, and just slot into a hole in the side of the car.
So perhaps I just need to remove the afore-mentioned bracket and simply lift out the backrest (assuming the pin doesn't penetrate too deeply into the side of the car)?
However, I'm wondering whether there are any "wrinkles"...for example, would I need to take out the rear seat cushion first, and then the side panel/cushion, in order to gain access to the area where there is some electrical wiring that needs disconnecting? Also, would I need to put the other backrest in a certain position, eg the down position?
So before attempting to remove the backrest, ideally I'd like to have sight of the relevant section of the E400 Coupe workshop manual. Is there anyone out there who can help, please?
