Repacing Audio 50 APS

Hi,

After looking through various forums, I'm still a little confused about how difficult it would be for me to replace my Audio 50 APS HK (with CD changer under the unit) in my 2003 E55 AMG with a Dynavin DVN-MBE-MOST unit? See here:dynavin

How do I know If I have this optical system that some cars use? If I do have it, is it going to cause a problem for this Dynavin unit? I've emailed Dynavin, but it's like waiting for a bus! So I thought I'd come here to seek expertise.

MOST is the fibre optic system that your car has. The MOST version of the unit is for cars likes yours with seperate AGW.

Thanks npuk, have you had any experience with these Dynavin units? Say I wanted to install another aftermarket stereo, a JVC for instance, how would I get around this problem with the seperate AGW? I presume all the speaker wires are connected at the rear of the car, so would I have to rewire the whole speaker system, or is there something I could buy that would allow me to use the existing plug that goes into the rear of the stereo? Am I right in saying that all the audio processing is not done by the head unit, but by something else at the rear of the car?

Not used a Dynavin, search the forum and google for reviews.

Your HK setup wouldnt work with an aftermarket unit. You would need to chance the HK amp etc.

A Dynavin unit wont work in your car at all im afraid. Because you have Audio 50 you have an AGW in the boot, this is where all the speakers are connected to. Plus you will probably have other devices on the fibre bus which the dynavin unit wont talk to at all.

If you are looking for a simple upgrade just retrofit an NTG1 head unit. This will give you a better display. If you then add a navigation drive in the boot, you'll get full comand in the car. Far better integrated than any aftermarket device.

Dynavin do two units for the W211 Alfie, one is specifically a MOST unit for cars with Audio 20 cassette, Audio 50 and Comand NTG1. It does work with the AGW etc, a member on the other side fitted one without any issues.
