I've just received a letter saying this needs to be done, has anyone else received a notification or had this done. The car is an E350 cdi 2011.

Yes I had mine done a couple of month now, waited while it was done mine is C320 cdi 2009
Thanks for that :thumb:

Can't help with the E350
However I got a letter saying that my Vito airbag needs changing, and that I must contact the Dealer to sort this.
I emailed them, and after a fair bit of messing around (when they said they would contact me back, and didn't) I was eventually given an appointment for the work to be done, about 6 weeks from that time.!
I was slightly surprised that ( a potential safety issue.? ) was so unimportant, however I'm not using the Vito much at the moment . Also I considered that obtaining the part may take a while (although they have always supplied my parts requirements very promptly). I also assumed that a recall may be fitted into an empty slot to avoid it interfering with their usual (aka more profitable? ) commercial operations.
I arrived promptly at the arranged date & time, only to be told that the work "couldn't be done because the part isn't here".
I was pretty annoyed, because it was a 30+ mile round trip & I had to set the whole day aside ( the appointment they had given me was in the middle of that day). They offered no explanation or apology for not letting me know my visit would be a waste of time.
I was told that they would contact me again, when they were ready to do the repair.
That was a couple of weeks ago, I've heard nothing yet.!

I've just spoken to the local Mercedes and they say its a 6-8 week wait as they only have 3 slots a day for 'unplanned' work as in recalls etc also waiting for the extra parts to come in. I asked for a courtesy car and they said in that case it wouldn't be possible till Dec! so I've booked a drop off and leave slot for end of October when I have some time off and will just have to spend the day doing some retail therapy at the shopping centre near by until the work is done.

May I respectfully recommend that, based on my frustrating experience, you contact them on the day before and obtain confirmation that they will be able to fulfill the appointment.

Fwiw I didn't mind so much that they were unable to comply with their appointment (stuff happens), more so that they didn't bother to let me know until I turned up.!

Good idea

I had mine done back at the start of this year. MB wrote to tell me it was due, so I rang and was given a date 6-7 later "because the part needed to be ordered first".

Contrast with Toyota, who replaced the airbag 2 years ago at the first service after the Takata news broke. No need to ask, no need to wait, they had a huge stock of them ready to deploy as required.

Hmm ... thanks for that as I've had the recall for our Vito as well, and our nearest dealer is a 45 mile round trip!

Yep, got a letter recently, for my 2011 C207 350cdi, but only about the passenger airbag, I'll book it in when I've got time. 🙂

I had both airbags replaced on mine in June.. on my 2010 E350Cdi at Brooklands.. with a 5 week lead time. they had the car all day 10am-5pm
FYI they did the emissions software update without asking me, the first I knew there was a letter detailing the update face down on my passenger seat. no mention or explanation was given at the time. Seemed a little unprofessional to me.

Thanks for the heads up, John, about the emissions update, mines mapped, so it might wipe it out, I'll have to tell them about it see what they say. 🙂👍

Tell the dealer to check the replacement part as soon as it arrives with them, for my S204 they did not open the box until they had the car, part had been damaged in transit so they had to get a replacement (6 weeks) and I had to collect the car and wait. Second time they opened the box soon as it arrived then booked the car in!

Hi
I have today received a letter stating that the Passenger side Airbag needs to be replaced C207 350CDI 65 Plate.

Called the garage today to confirm they have the parts ready for next Monday and they said they have them. I'll drop the car off with them early and spend the time doing some retail therapy at the nearby shopping centre.

Good to hear mate.
To balance the thread (because I don't seem to have updated it after my previous posts above) I have now had the replacement airbag replaced on mine.
