Hi folks, both mine and my wife’s car were bought second hand and came with only one key.
Does anybody know, is there a reliable, cheaper alternative to getting second keys other than through the MB dealer network?
I’m not interested in Chinese crap but if there were a viable alternative to genuine that was reasonably affordable I would love to know.
Thanks

On a school run I saw one guy (parent) who worked as an auto car specialist. Out of interest I asked how much is a key for a 2008 A class, I was quoted £175.

I hope this helps as a guide price.

Thanks for that.

Almost worth a drive to Ringwood Hants to this place.

I had a new key fob programmed for the wife's Kia Rio.
Very reasonable £150 and done whilst I waited.
Asked about Mercedes keys and he can do all but the latest models (up to 2016 I believe)
Give him a call. All details in the link.

It's worth asking your local dealer, it may not be such a big difference. I needed to get a new key for a 2003 car with keyless go and it was £265 all in. It came from Germany pre coded to the car; no coding needed by the dealer. Some of the after market keys are low quality and will not last.

If it came from Germany it would of needed to be coded for your car all Europe keys use a different frequency can be done while you wait it's a simple process I had 1 done for the SLK55 £180 all in

Easily done by a key specialist for the numbers quoted above. It is that expensive because of the quality of the unit, the physical key and the coding

I believe the main dealer keys are that bit more expensive because they are main dealers and because they are created in Germany using the VIN number of your vehicle.

Search on our website using the search box top right, but I doubt that you’ll find anyone easier to access than Ringwood, that 45 minute hop along the M27

Here’s AMGeed’s original post, which includes a photo of the key he received.

Thanks for all your advice guys, I’ll give it some thought.
