My car has picked up a cracked windscreen and will need it replacing. It has all the electronic toys with the cameras etc in the rear view mirror bezel ( 3 cameras I think). Can anybody recommend a windscreen company that will use genuine screens and recalibrate the tech after fitting. The car is only just over 6 months old so would like it returned to 'as new'. Currently up on holiday in the western Yorkshire dales, hopefully it will last until I get home to near Cirencester on Saturday. Any experience/ suggestions will be gratefully received.

Local dealer would be best.

Your insurance company will have to oblige to fit a genuine mb screen as the car is under 3 years of age.. make sure you reiterate that you want an MB screen( probs pilkington with mb logo) you don't have to get it fitted at a dealer but you can get the calibration done after at the dealer which insurance won't have an issue with..

Does anybody other than autoglass deal with this? Dealer sent me to body shop, body shop to insurance, direct line straight to autoglass without even talking to me

Speak to the normal claims dept at the insurance company and tell them you want a genuine screen from the dealer. They may let you pay the dealer and claim it back from them.

Ensure that all the calibration work is undertaken by them whilst they have the car and that you do not have to run it to their specialist centre nor get caught in the scope of work between insurance company and glass fitters - ask me how I know:doh:

It's booked in with autoglass in Preston as they have the tools to calibrate the kit apparently, from what people are saying the dealer will do this anyway?

Yeh I went to my dealer for the calibration rather than to one of autoglass's Belron centres which would have been a 50 mile round trip and approx £50, dealer charged me £60.. result! You have to make sure autoglass are aware that you want genuine MB glass..

That is what happens, you call a number for glass claims via e.g your insurance companies website and the glass company you go straight through to will liaise with your insurance co. you don't even need to speak to your insurance co. unless an issue arises

Sorry forgot to add, I had the autoglass mobile tech guy come out for the screen replacement.. then I went to the dealer for calibration cos he couldn't do it himself : /

Cancelled the one in Preston as they were not going to use a genuine MB screen, awaiting for insurance approval before they order a genuine one then off to Bristol hopefully in about a week when the screen arrives. Fingers crossed.

Adding to this very late, but might be useful for someone in the future - I got the glass replaced by Autoglass but when they asked me questions about what equipment was fitted the guy on the phone seemed really unsure about which windscreen should be ordered.
I called my MB dealer and asked for the OEM part number - MA2136703501 (W213 saloon, e220d, Drive Pilot, Comand Online). I then called Autoglass and asked that they supply this or an equivalent. They said they didn't have it (or a 3rd party equivalent) in stock so would order OEM. On the day (about a week to wait for part) they had a Mercedes OEM (with Carl Benz signature etc.). Technician said he also had their own standard with him but it didn't have all the cameras and antennae so he didn't fit it.
He said they couldn't re-calibrate (either roadside or branch/workshop) and said MB main dealer would have to do it (I got a letter in the post from Autoglass the next day saying not to use/rely on safety equipment until checked by dealer).

Dealer (Mercedes Guildford) had no idea what I was on about, said there were no error messages so why am I here? I explained Autoglass said you have to check it. They ran it though the computer again and said it's fine. It has worked fine since. Charged me £75 for the pleasure.

As an aside, this is just one of several stories I have of MB dealers not knowing anything about the W213 tech beyond the basics.

Had mine finally done by autiglass in Bristol with a genuine MB OEM screen. They also ran the calibration tests there and then as they are one of the few centres with the correct kit, also came with a certificate to prove it had been done, rather than next time the car is with MB they tell me the calibration needs doing!.
Driven the car about 1000miles since and all appears to be working as before, unlike the rest of the car.........
