Replacing aluminium trim on steering wheel

Hi all

I've noticed the aluminium trim on my steering wheel has a small chip in it on the underside which feels very rough when turning the wheel. I've identified the part I need to replace it with, but have no idea how you actually remove the aluminium trim and place the new trim on. I can't see any clips or feel any grooves to ease the old trim off either....any ideas pls?

Pic of steering wheel in question.

Thanks

Thanks for that....I'm guessing not a DIY job as sensors will need to be reset?

Battery disconnect is all that's usually required for air bags but I'd check with a dealer, or someone more Merc knowledgeable, first!

disconnect battery (just in case
wait 10 mins
release airbag (do not disconnect
remove screws on trim and slid off, airbag can be left connected and trim manouvered around
install replacement trim in reverse order

Let me know if you want a trim piece as i have one

Hi mate. Thanks for that, very helpful.

Is the trim piece in good nick and how much you after? Pm me.

Just to say a massive thanks to Alps who not only supplied me with a new piece of trim, but also fitted it for me this weekend. I'd highly recommend Alps to anyone, as not only is he incredibly knowledgeable about Mercs, but he's a nice guy to boot!

Cheers Alps, really appreciate it.
