can i reset the ecu on my w210 e320cdi 2002 to try and get better fuel economy?
thanks kirkyboy

That won't make any difference at all.

Are the air filters clean?

Is the MAF performing properly?

Are the tyres in good shape?

how do i check that the maff is working ok tyres are all good apart from some ware on inner edges which the tracking haas been sorted. do you mean air filter it has full merc history it has been been well looked after

how do you do a ecu reset so i can teach it the way i drive not previous owner, cheers kirkyboy

A re-set can be done with a Star and the maf values can be read too.

The car will adapt to your driving style given time. No need to reset anything IMHO.

If you're interested in fuel economy, I'd avoid the throttle body reset. It seems all that does is fool your car into thinking that you're driving like a loon, and sharpens it's senses accordingly. That would be less economical for a short while until it adapts to the fact that you're driving normally.

The car's ECU is adaptive which means that its always evaluating current conditions ad driving style. There is no such thing as an ECU reset although its possible to reset the stored adaptive values.

As Olly says, none of this can be done effectively without rigging it up to a STAR....

If the car isn't performing as you expect its not down the previous owner but it could be a fault and components like MAF sensors are often culprits (it was in my case!)

well i went for a drive yesterday and managed 35mpg over a 30 milr trip i put it into cruise controll at 60mph, so i was quiet happy this wasfrom plymouth to trago in dobwalls (trago mills) should i be happy with that?

Happy with Trago Mills? Not if you're like me. I end up buying stuff just because I feel like I should be finding a bargain!!

Happy with MPG? Doesn't sound great MPG for a diesel, but I guess it is quite hilly and you'll need to stop a few times.

The downs should compensate the ups when you're controlling speed with your ankle, but with cruise control on it probably doesn't work out quite so well.

MPG post's are becoming more popular these day's, the MPG achieved varies strongly on the weather, i too am getting low 30's on short trips but on a warm day I'd see high 30's & low 40's on a run.

I get 27-30MPG out of my petrol S320 on a good run!

Better now that I run it on VPower all the time (and fitted new airfilter and MAF sensor)

30 MPG is poor the last 320CDI we managed to get our hands on was doing 45-50 @ 80-90MPH with RACE spec software .
