2000 CL500
Hi, Just bought my third MB, had a 300e24v some years back and then a W140 S500 for a while.... both very nice.... then went over to Lexus with a LS430 and then got back into offroading for a few years with various muddy vehicles... Always loved the look of the W215 CL so when one came up for sale only 2miles away at a very silly price we went to have a look.... well I'm blaming the mrs... she said she liked it... I just had to buy it...

It's a 2000 CL500 in silver with black interior, done 108,000 miles.... unusually no faults showing on the heater and it seems to run OK, has mostly MB history, it's been looked after but not loved.... sounds like the pulsation damper needs changing.... everything else works as it should except the CD player is on the blink... Has a newly refurbished set of, I believe, AMG alloys but does need some tlc on the bodywork, both doors have corroded as has one rear arch, the paint on the bumpers has died and it's got two scabs on the roof... so luckily a mate has a bodyshop and it will be getting sorted properly and a respray soon... this will be a proper job not just a quick bodge up!! Inside is nice, the only let down is the rear cubby box has suffered with kids or maybe a dog and the vynal (why is this vynal when everything else is leather) has got ripped... that will be retrimmed in leather... the seat mechanism covers on both seats has broken off so two new ones are on order as well as 3 clips for the boot slam panel...

The ABC works fine at the moment!!

I love playing with cars and this one will be tops when it's sorted.... I picked it up last Wednesday and I'm still grinning... is it only me who goes outside just to look at it.... sad I know but there you go....

Love forums, been on loads, I do like to waffle on.....

Hope to meet some new like minded friends and pick up some advice.... first being how to flush and change the ABC fluid??

Thanks

Pete

Welcome to the forum Pete, no-one does big coupes quite like Mercedes.

Hi Pete and welcome to the forum.A lovely motor you have there, always wanted one myslef but running costs scare the life out of me

Hello and welcome to you. Enjoy the CL.

Hello Pete
Welcome to the Forum

Welcome Pete

Thanks for the welcome guys, had the aircon recharged today, it's been vacume tested and then refilled with gas/leak sealer and oil and is now very cold, doesn't appear to have any leaks so it seems it was just empty... also picked up the seat mechanism covers not bad at £22 each and also the clips for the boot, 90p!! so it's much tidier looking now....

Welcome----- from this it would appear you need Star to do this? you could probably manage the fluid preheating part by some spirited driving on some windy B road for 15 minutes but I can't see how you can do the flushing bit next without Star? Other folks may know ? :dk: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/m...5_Flushing_active_body_control_ABC_system.pdf

Thanks for that, went to see my local indie today and he recons just change the filter and leave it alone... also, although it's showing the classic humming symptoms of a worn out pulsation damper, he was younger and fitter than me and crawled under the car to find someone had removed one of the second set of cats and replaced it with a piece of pipe and a smaller cat.... we came to the conclusion that the humming is the exhaust unbalanced... I'll get some replacement pipes made up and take them both out... it's ok as I use a very thick MOT man!!??!?

Replace both pipes and leave the rear cats in place.

I have funny feeling that your emissions will be fine when tested ... :) Mine were.
