New member of this forum. Just bought 2012 E200 Coupe. Love the spec but would have liked the reversing camera. Would appreciate any views of those of you have this fitted and/or from anyone who has had it retro fitted to Audio 20/Becker system. Looks like it will cost £500 fitted. Ta very much!

Reversing camera experience

Thanks AMGeed. I had found their web site but they only sell the parts - no fitting.

I was hoping to get some comments about how good the reversing camera system is from current users as its quite an expensive add on. Also experience of any one who has retro fitted.

I'm new to this forum and wonder is there a way to search for a topic as mine might have been raised in the past?

Comand Online will fit the reversing camera as well as supply only.
Call Mark or Richard on 01276 451579 and see what they can advise.

There is a search function on the top of the main page on the same line as Log out.

How to find Us

Dead easy to fit. Only takes about 2 hours. Can pick up decent camera from eBay for about £20 to.

Thanks for that info everyone. I'll contact Comand and see what they can do. When I originally looked at their various web sites I couldn't find any mention of anything but the Comand system which of course I don't have. Mine is the Audio20/Becker.

Do any of you have the camera fitted - is it a worthwhile addition?

amiller81 - when you say it is easy to fit I'm not put off by the camera end but I think it involves some coding of the Audio20 system to get it operating fully with the moving steering lines on the screen etc.

Sounds odd if you are talking about an Audio 20 head unit and not a later MY car (with NTG5 head unit). Unless you are referring to one of those devices that "steals" the display signal from the display harness (with all of the drawbacks).

The lines are usually pre-set into the head unit all you have to do is access the engineer mode. When I fitted mine this was the case although it's the NTG 4.5 system

I understand what you are saying amiller81 but I'm reluctant to start playing with something I don't know anything about and without detailed instructions.

Diesel Benz - when I bought the car a couple of weeks ago I checked with M-B against the VIN number and they said it is Audio20. The SATNAV is the Becker system with a small removable box in the glove box which you can then hook up to your PC. It also relays the main instructions to the middle of the instrument cluster. This system has still been available recently as my cousin bought a new GLA this year with the same system fitted.

For other purposes I also have both Garmin and Tom Tom but there are features of this Becker system in operation that I really like and the voice activation feature works a treat - I'm not having to key in any addresses at all. Only drawback is the viewable area of the built in screen isn't that large and of course not touch sensitive like my Garmin or Tom Tom. Incidentally the Tom Tom is very good on my motorbikes as I can operate it with gloves on.

Audio-20 (NTG4 & NTG 4.5) does not have the necessary video input on the rear of the unit. So no camera possible. Some NTG5 units do have the connector.

A 2012 E class will be NTG 4 or 4.5.

Thanks Alfie - I got the same answer from Comandonline so that settles it - no reversing camera.

Just puzzled about the designation of this system. When I bought the car I sent the VIN to M-B Service and got the reply that is has an Audio 20 system. I think your saying that it will also be known as an NTG4.0 or 4.5. Are the differences listed anywhere?

My car is the SE model and I'm also wondering where I could find out the original factory spec?

NTG 4 / 4.5 refers to the type of telematics (New Telematics Generation). So you have either an NTG4 audio-20 or an NTG 4.5 audio-20. Very different units.

Some NTG 5 Audio-20 units will allow a camera. The only surefire way to tell is to look for the video input on the rear of the unit.

Didn't, think you could have a reversing camera as there is no screen on an audio 20, not a viewing screen anyway.

NTG 2.5, 4, 4.5 and 5 Audio 20 does have a screen.

NTG1 and NTG2 audio 20 does not have a screen.

I've looked in to this in great detail myself.

In order to install a reversing camera on a W204 you need to have a Comand unit in the vehicle with 2 green FAKRA connections at the rear.

If you have this unit then its a pretty easy DIY job to fit it yourself. If you don't then you're screwed.

Only thing you can do is retrofit a Comand head unit which needs to be coded to the vehicle and will cost an absolute fortune.

If you post your VIN someone (or yourself) can get the details of the car and everything fitted from factory

I think it's the VIN that's needed? Or another number?
