Noticed the ad in the DRIVING section of this weekends Sunday Times.

They are starting up a new run of RHD G Wagons.

Anyone here fancy a brand new UK spec G55 AMG? any idea of price?

Might trade in my w202 for one*?

The same thought crossed my mind! I'm still on the look out for a G55, it will be a LHD as the RHD is way out of budget.

The anti-4x4 brigade are upset with 4x4 jellymoulds with big wheel arches, the landy defender and g-wagen look like military/industrial/commercial vehicles and probably fall under their radar!

Had a 280GEL 1988 vintage, didn't need bull bars, the front bumper was made of 6mm thick steel channel. Hit a lorry in mine, wrote the lorry off £1500 damage to the G, built like a brick out house. Best Merc I've driven, it was a company car, it had to go

The high price is because they're hand built to military spec. Won't be made for much longer this way I don't think.

Merc have been trying to kill them off since they brought out the inferior ML but the G-Wagen just refuses to go away .

I must confess to liking the G-class but it just seems such a contradiction to have a 55AMG on what is perhaps a barn door?? I really like all the AMG options, but surely it just cannot be aero dynamic? The latest 420CDI would certainly be an excellent engine for an excellent vehicle.

The price though?? Wow

Certainly been on the cards for a number of years. Pity Landrover has not come up with a replacement, but the Unimog is also a brilliant machine.

I was about to say they will probably be the only G Wagens I ever drive.

I must admit the G55 is amazing but there are alot of cars on the wish list before I had one of them.
