Hi all,
I’ve a late 2005 E220 CDI which, when driving at a constant speed, with or without the cruise control on, the indicated rpm ‘hunts’ c. +/- 5%.
From time to time it will also drop c.300 rpm, the sensation being per the gearbox shifting up, even though it is often already in 5th.
RPMs are stable at idle and the fluctuation happens when the car is both cold and warm. There is no vibration through the throttle pedal and therefore my assumption is that I have a transmission rather than an engine/ fuelling issue.
I am planning to have the issue investigated by a specialist, but any insight as to what the cause might be would be welcome.
