I've replied to a few threads about problems with idle etc well basically the following is what i am experiencing right now and believe me it stinks!

First off the car is a W202 96 elegance 5spd auto with 117k on the clock, I'm the seond owner of the car after purchasing it about 3 1/2 yrs ago with 37k on the clock.

The cars ran not bad after having a few problems in the few months after first buying it and apart from having to replace the CAT i've not really spent much on it (apart from a set of 17" AMG's from the stealership and thats when i found out why they were called the stealership!!! btw AMG's are up for sale!)

Anyway in the last few months it's slowly developed the following problems:-
1. No power when first started in the morning (have to let sit for about 5mins)
2. Rough idle
3. Little response from the engine when the pedals dropped even when fully warm
4. A small delay when the box changes up a gear
5. Dead spot when pedals pressed
6. Back fire if gears dropped by kick down when pushed hard

The cars just went through a MOT after failing on emissions first time round, i did however put the car into a standard garage not a MB one. The guys checked things out and discovered that the comprssion was low on numbers 1 & 4 however after a treatment of some sort the compression level came back up however i am still left with the problem of the items above.

I have noticed that when the car is under load it sounds like it's "pinking" however i have been told that it may be a bad valve which could answer the question about the low compression.

The thing that is strange to me is that if i've got it at 50+ the thing feels fine with only the dead spot causing probs.

Anyone any ideas?

The worst thing about all of this is that as i'm in the Glasgow area there are no independant MB garages about which is a pain as i'm trying to avoid going back to the stealerships.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the MAF (Mass Air Fuel) sensor to me.

But I have no experience of so young a car! ;-)
