Poking about a new car, like you do, I spotted gaps in the cubby on the passenger side in the boot where the first aid kit lives. It looked like it was shaped for a jack handle and a towing eye and maybe spare spark plugs.
But under the boot floor is a spacesaver wheel, uninflated, and a whole toolkit including all of the above (no plugs) as well as a can of foam and a compressor. All fitted into their proper slots by the look of things.
So what should be in the boot cubby or is it a duplicate hole?
Cheers
David

I think that that's where the tools go if you have a full-size spare. The owners manual will show this.

Also, do you have a collapsible spare wheel, or an actual spase-saver wheel?

The jack, locking wheel nut key, warning triangle, first aid kit, gloves and bag of fuses are all in the cubby on mine. I have the little holes too - I wondered if they might have been for the bolts that are required for the space saver. In my car they're in a bubble pack under the space saver.

My space saver is below a shallow storage tray, under the boot floor. I don't have a can of foam or a compressor.

05 mY c55 estate. There is nothing else under the boot floor in the way of compartments, it goes straight to the spare wheel well. The spare is clearly uninflated, vredstein tyre iirc. Everything else appears to be there, there aren't nay gaps. There is a fuse remover in the cubby hole though along with the warning triangle and first aid kit - untouched by the looks of things. Under the boot floor are gloves, compressor, foam, jack, handle, locking wheel nut adaptor, chock, fuses etc. Compressor appears to be unique to the c55 or a least a thing called tirefit. The holes are indeed for spare wheel bolts. They all seem to be differing storage combinations depending on the size of the spare wheel.

Here’s mine which I think is complete.
The holes are for short wheel studs if you have a steel spare.

I had a mini-panic when I got my car and they weren't there - they're taped to the underside of the space saver in a bubble pack, I guess to make it more obvious that you need to use them. IIRC people were re-using the original bolts and damaging the hub as they're a bit longer.

Not so much the hub but what is behind it, which, for the rears will be the handbrake shoes, springs etc

In Mine (C55 AMG) those empty holes have short bolts in them to be used with the collapsed spare steel wheel. Do not confuse this un inflated very flat profile tyre with an inflated rounder profile space saver. They are 2 very different wheels.

Mine also.
