S204 Rear light cluster problem.

I keep getting two error messages come up on the cluster for n/s rear marker lamp and n/s number plate bulb faulty.
Give them a wiggle and they illuminate again. One bulb is very dim although working.
I think I have the problem described in this very good video below. I'm going to tackle the job at the weekend and add a new earth wire to the bulb holder.

Common fault on the S204 rear lights is earth wire overloaded, replacing it with heavier duty wire is a good starting point! I've changed most of my rear lights 9not the indicators as that requires a replacement flasher unit) to LED's, provided you get canbus error free ones with a decent heat sink they're an improvement on incandescents, especially the 16W reversing lights.
 
As above, though it's worth noting this affects the pre-facelift cars only - the facelift (with the part-LED rear lights cluster) do not suffer from this issue.
