S210 diesel estate 2002, location of low pressure fuel pump?

BlackC55,

You were absolutely right! No. 3 injector failed the leak off test in spectacular fashion. So now I need to know if I can just replace the nozzle or whether I need to replace the whole injector.

It may be repaired by changing few iner seals of injector, refurb injectors are not very expensive and widely availabe in ebay...

mersum1es,

I've ordered up a refurbished injector from Ebay (£109). I've also ordered a set of new bolts and washers, and an injector extraction kit. When these all arrive I'll see about getting the dodgy one out and replacing it. Then hopefully it'll all work as it should, and I can put this particular little episode to bed.

Wish me luck!

They should twist and pull out easily, almost by hand. When there's no 'Black Death' evident.
Good luck, glad you've cracked it.

BlackC55,

I'd just like to thank you for diagnosing the problem with my car so quickly and precisely. I've now replaced no. 3 injector with a refurbished unit and it's working as it should. The car started almost immediately on the key once the new injector was fitted. Here are some pics of the process.

The pic above shows the injectors with the leak off tube removed and covers put on the other three injectors.

The injector was quite easy to remove, with the use of a lever to break the seal. Once out I found the area around the injector was covered with white grease, so once wiped off the area was quite clean. I replaced the old bolt with a new one, and the new injector came with a new copper washer. I have a low tension torque wrench so was able to tighten the new screw to 5 ft/lb + 90 degrees.

With the injector fitted the reconnection of fuel delivery pipe, leak off pipe, and electronics took only a couple of minutes, after which the car started on the key after less than two seconds on the starter.

You may be able to see that the belt is moving in this pic, that I took with the engine ticking over.

I'll leave the covers off for a day or two, to make sure there are no leaks anywhere, but assuming it all settles in correctly I should have the covers back on by next weekend.

So I'd like to say a very big THANK YOU! to all those who've offered advice during this painful time, and especially to BlackC55 who put his finger on the problem without a second's hesitation. Well done that man!

That white grease is Mercedes' 'special grease' which should be applied to the injector to stop it seizing should it ever need removing again.

BlackC55 (Olly) is a well respected Indie on here and knows his stuff!

bob6600, thanks for the info about the grease. I use copper grease for the same reason, and I coated the injector with it before fitting it.

that 'moomin sh*t' grease is cheaply available from dealer, part number A001989425110, at reasonable small can (50g)

I bought a very small tin of white ceramic grease for my cdi injectors (£5, ebay).

It could have been lard.

I wouldn't say cheap...I paid around £16 for it and it's around £20 on ebay

Glad you got it sorted?
