S210 EClass E300TD Avantgarde
I could really do with some advice on this please.
I have only recently obtained this vehicle a 98 S210 e300TD Avantgarde, when driving it today with a fully loaded up boot area it felt like a two ton blancmange with a weird "torque steer" thing that happened when the gear box changed down or up as accelerating or lifting off.
Effectively when accelerating and the auto went down a gear you feel a slight jerk/pull to the left, when lifting off and it goes up a gear there is a more violent jerk to the right.
Each time it immediately straightens up and carries on and this only occurs at the gear change.
To me it feels like it originates from the rear and is genuinely a little scary!
Is there a known issue or anything I should check/ prepare for first?

Once again many thanks for all help and advice

It'll be your rear sub frame bushes...the front pair. I was able to change lane merely by accelerating!!

Thanks Renault,
Mine seems more violent when lifting off but certainly the harder you went at it the worse the reaction...
I did have a quick look at the forums and despite this being something that may not have a common description the front bushes on rear subframe kept coming up on many W210 handling woes threads.
So looks like that's it then, front bushes instead of glowplugs or fuel lines for the moment.
Oh.. and a new silencer...

You have one for sale?

Right , OK I am stoopid!

just looked in ebay, then on line ..get the feeling that a w210 E300TD of 98 vintage falls into that special category of being the one no one stocks at sensible prices.....£235 from Euro Car Parts.... who are amongst the only ones showing a price online!

The one in my post is current.

Today tried the following, car with driver holding the foot brake on moves gear selector between Drive and then reverse.
Observing the reaction at both near side and driver side rear wheels the following reaction was observed,
Near side the wheel tried to rotate moving 10 to 15 mm forward on each gear change into drive and relaxed back on selecting reverse.
Drivers side virtually no movement.
Hand under car holding front rear subfame bush no significant movement. Nor any apparent on lower Tie Bar.
My gut feeling now is leading to the upper front control arm as the wheel seems to rotate about the lower point. i.e its the front upper portion of the wheel that seems to move forward.
Not sure that's terribly clear and not scientific and I need to remove the wheel and investigate further...
