As above drove home tonight went boot it, car stutted then all was ok, i changed the fuel filter when i got home just to be on safe side took it for a drive booted it this time limp mode error code p0256

Any ideas what could cause this cheers peeps:thumb:

car is 2003 s211 3.2 I6 CDI

Right, Update. i went on a drive to colchester to a friend who read and reset the code.

Drove steady almost home, Then gave it a proper italian tune up, really dont like doing this to the car but i gave hell from 0-70 4-5 times and she didnt act up at all no light nothing, Drove her steady at 30 through my town and noticed the rpm slightly fluctuating, hadnt noticed this before so i gave her another caining and again all fine.

I pulled onto the drive and popped the bonnet with the engine running, 4 of the 6 glow plugs having some sort of bubbling liquid around them! the car doesnt use any oil or smoke!

Its wet right around the seat of the glow plugs on 4 cylinders , what is this liquid?? oil or fuel?? as i switched the engine off there was no more bubbling, the plugs were changed at a Mb specialist around 4,000 miles ago and ive not long since been back from a 1,800 miles drive.

Please help any ideas??

Just to Add all fuel lines and rail are 100% dry its diffinatly coming up from the cylinders.

Here a pic sorry its the best i can get.

Right i maybe over thinking this a little,

Car plays up, although no check engine light then the car drives ok

I change the fuel filter and the car within a mile acts up and throws a code.

Drive easy for 20miles then reset the code.

Car then drives perfectly fine full power no codes, i wondering wether the system didnt bleed all the air out completly from fuel filter when i changed it then when asking for more power it got a air lock then cleared.

Going to to the car for a drive this morning and see if i can get it to throw another code.

Have checked the glow plugs and cleaned around them, all seem tight, took one out and no fuel or oil was presant on the tips of the plugs combustion end.

Done over a 70 miles in total this morning and car hasn't missed abeat.

Took it to my indie anyway as the glowplugs were still fizzing lol, Was told highly likly cyinder pressure blowing the anitseeze compound back up they are going to clean them up and re torque them.

Re, the fault code p0256 Could be a sticky injector so are having them checked out next monday tobe continued....

I know your get sorted Gav ....Good Luck.

Have you put any cleaning additives in the tank?

Thanks Keith:thumb: i put some in this morning then gave the car a good hard drive, she really does seem smoother since the fuel filter change tbh.

Thought my luck had been going to well with the Mb lol, this is the 1st proper (possible) bit of trouble she's given me, Just hoping i dont end up having to have a set of injectors :/

The CP2/3 fuel systems are fussy...particularly on the low pressure supply side. This must be fully bled to keep the high pressure happy. On the high pressure side, metering and DRV valves and go mental too. Remember, a high pressure fault can be logged when low pressure is out of spec.

Thanks for the info, i really think its down to the filter change and i got a air lock, Ove done 150miles in her and she hasnt missed a beat starts on the button too.

Still monday may bring up something fingers crossed it doesnt lol and the car behaves :thumb:

Right just to update this abit and to see if anyone has any ideas, The car is going in tomorrow to see if they can fix the issue.

I've been out in her today and she ONLY appears to Misfire at 3,800rpm and in COMFORT mode with WOT foot to the floor??

She's perfect in Sports mode, when the misfire accours the engine definitely stops accelerating then she pick up and runs fine. Really confusing??

Its only ever at WOT and in Comfort mode.

This makes me think its ever Fuel starvation or Boost cut, No fault codes despite it doing it several times.

Hi thanks for the reply, by tcu do u mean turbo actuator? That being the case id had thought I'd get a over boost code.

I know what you are saying but I have to get this issue sorted as I like my cars 100% all if the time.

Transmission control unit. It's only a thought as would of expected it to do in all gearbox modes if it was the engine side of things.

I was thinking the same buddy, electronic plate, as my code reader will only read engine codes. :thumb:

Will keep you posted she's going in tomorrow:crazy:

Fingers crossed it's a cheap fix and they sort it as like you I can't stand something not working right.. I am waiting on my wheels from refurb so hope to get mine back on the road tomorrow as they had problems with first attempt and she looks sorry on 4 axle stands and 2 jacks.

Shoulda said Gav could have put it on my reader :-)

It looks like my actuator refurb sorted my kangarooing issue.

Did you do a tcu reset?

The Saga continues.......

The specialist has had the car all day and guess what? yep the car hasn't missed a beat.

NO fault codes in engine or gearbox, From what he says and on going on how ive explained, It sounds like the early stages of Tc failure, but i dont think this is tbh as its a Stutter not a judder and only ever at high rpm 3,800 rev's.

Everything ive read on tc failure it normally accours around 1,800 - 2,600 rpm and again its a judder not a stutter, and also if it is a Tc issue surly it would be doing it all the time no matter of wether or not its in Sport or Comfort modes.

Just to add the Radiator was changed when i got it 12k ago and the car has done 91k in total with a Transmission fluid change at 80k

So, he is keeping the car another day and will invistigate further, finger's crossed will keep this thread upto date.

Please feel free to express opinions as this has me totally stumped :(

:-( oh no

If it only does it in comfort I'd try the tcu reset trick if that doesn't fix it leave it in sport :)
