s212 e500

Classic mistake to think that a car is sold when the advert goes down.

Odds are that the ad's expired or that it's been bumped along the trade, especially when it's a big-engined motor.

Nice car but I still think the 211 is a much nicer place to be. I've thought that every time I've been in a W212 taxi. Personally I would save a whole heap of dosh by finding a last of the line S211 with all the kit (if such a beast exists...)

You and me both, matey. I've just acquired a pretty decent early E500 as a stopgap, but I aim to end up in either a facelift 211, or (if I have to) a pre-facelift 212 E500, with the 5.5 engine. There may be one out there for me...

I'd go and have a look, but the Quack says it'll be three months before my right foot can operate the accelerator and footbrake again....

So who bought it then? - I just called them about at as Mrs PaulX rather liked the look of it but they reckon they have just taken a deposit on it.

Tisk, tisk.... Wonder how much it went for?

Sorry, that would be me. Have been a long time reader of this forum and look forward to driving this one having driven smaller engined C classes for 10 years +

Excellent - good choice !

Welcome! And enjoy the car. I have a very similar one and I love it, and I’m sure Londonscottish would say the same. As far as I know we are the only other owners of S212 E500s on the Forum - indeed I’ve only ever seen 6 online in 3-4 years of looking out for them. Quite a few Forum members do have the same engine in E500 coupes and various ’S’ models but only a tiny handful ever seem to have found their way into E-class estates making it an exclusive choice!

Excellent and well done. Great cars. Love the spec of yours and the colour. Let SW18 and I know how you get on on and feel free to ask any questions. There's a fair amount of kit on these things and it can take a while to work it all out.

And enjoy giving it the beans for the first time. It doesn't make a lot of fuss about it but fairly shifts :-)

Many thanks, I'm sure I will have many questions! Looking forward to picking it up next Friday. Actually remember seeing your one advertised at Maundrell I think it was? Have been keeping my eyes out for one for a while. Before that there was a Avantgarde version in Hampshire but the spec was quite basic. Will take some time to try out all the kit. Planning to remove the badge and believe dental floss is the thing to use for that....

A better plan might be to replace the 5 with a 2. You'll leave a lot of boy racers with egg on their faces...

Congratulations on your purchase!

Yes, the traditional advice for badge removal is gentle warmth with a hairdryer (not a heat gun !), followed by dental floss or fishing line to loosen the badge. Then white spirit to clean the remaining adhesive backing, and a polish / wax with your usual preferred product to get the final finish.

Avoid the temptation to lever with a screwdriver or piece of sharp plastic as you run the risk of damaging the paint from the leverage.

Do post some photos some time, for general admiration.

Yes mine was the Maundrells one.

I'd been myopically focused on getting a 350 CGI Sport and had had a series of disappointments. The 500 had almost past me by as the photos were a bit rubbish, the spec was way-undercalled, it was an A/G on 17's and it was the "wrong colour".

But Biglips (on here) gave me a nudge, I want to see it and that was that.

Anyway, hurry up and get yours! Plenty of helpful people on here with 212's in various guises and others with the 5.5 in other models.
