S213 rear end rattle clonk

For a while now I have a rattle/clonk in the rear end of my s213 it kinda sounds like it's the tailgate moving but I cant see any stops or anything to adjust. It tends to happen going over speed bumps etc

But it's bloody annoying! I can't seem to move the tailgate or anything but if I bounce around in the back with it open it sounds like it may be around the left hinge

Actually it may be more of a clicking noise thinking about it

One of my rear dampers in my S212 made a "gronk" noise when turning left (drivers side damper was shot), that was a mid-2015 car E63.

Hmm I'd hope not at 24k! But who knows. Was yours on airmatic?

Mine was air spring at the back and dead in just over 50,000 miles

My car (airmatic) gives the odd clunk (like a knackered drop link in old money) from the front but everything is tight. I did see if the front struts were tight in the front towers and they all tightened a tiny bit and 90% of the noise has gone, I also got something from the back now and again but thought i can't be bothered to repeat this process on the back strut top mounts as i would have to remove all of the inside trim to get to them, but... the other day i removed my number plate holder to replace with essentially a big piece of velco to hold the plates on as i wanted a cleaner look. Taking the inside tailgate cover off to remove the plastic captive nuts that the number plate screws screw into i discovered some of the inner structure along the edge where the boot close/towbar buttons are was all flapping around inside. On putting it all back together then i made sure it went back not flapping around. Guess what since then utter silence.
