S320 B service £72 in Belfast by mercedes specialist independant, Ok its only oil & filter & full diagnostics check whilst I watched on! GR8!

Thats a good deal dude     However a B service includes brake pads, gearbox filter and ATF change etc etc

What you had done is more like the A-Service (the Small one) A B-Service is all filters etc
Not a bad price for a A-Service though ;)

It's a great price BUT.... this specialist has not done you any favours, the wrong service has been done, so parts that should be replaced have not been?

This may well NOT be a problem, but if you intend keeping the car then I would recommend you note what has not een replaced and when it goes in for its next service, make sure these items are renewed.

I am not knocking the price, but the 'specialist' should know the requirements for each service?

Have a nice day,
John

The manual tells you what should be done and at what intervals - I would cross check for safety reasons and see what's been missed out.

All B services are not equal as the interval for items like ATF and filter, charcoal filter, cabin filters, brake fluid change, engine air filter, brake pad and disk thickness check etc etc all vary and therefore come together in different mixes at service time.

The B also includes things like A/C refrigerant pressure etc and a large number of visual checks which can head off future problems.

Sounds like you had the equivalent of a KwikFit oil change!

definately a qwik fit job.

a "b" service is very thorough.

i would have changed your oil for £65

All wrong, a B service is just an oil change!! and a check on brakes etc. also checks whether any other parts need changing ie air filter, coolant, spark plugs etc. depending on mileage. merc charge about £360 to do this oil change only, anything else is extra. you could do it yourself for the cost of a filter and oil and an hour looking around.
I doubt they would check the a/c pressures.

What oil did they use? It costs almost that much for oil alone in Edna - and that's me providing it.

a dealer told me the only difference between an a service and a b service is that they change the pollen filter.

Never let the truth spoil a good story :) :) (again) Our vehicle has just had an E+ service at a Mercedes-Benz main dealer, oils including brake fluid where changed (brake fluid drained and replaced) The car was collected, a courtesy car left, (the dealership is over one hours travelling time) Cost £280. Oh and the air conditioning was checked as well

I hate with a passion these generalised statements, I fully accept there might be a dealer that charges the price you claim, NAME THEM!!!! but to say Mercedes-Benz will charge you X amount is plain wrong. There is a place for independents\specialist, whatever, but there is also a case for using main dealers. Where else could Silvertank buy a Renoir?? :D :D

Take care,
John

Robinsons mercedes peterborough, quoted 2yrs ago b service £360 plus vat, i quote for that you get an oil and filter change and they check the brake pads and give it a good look over sir, is that all ? yes sir anything else is extra i.e. air filter, plugs brake fluid, coolant etc. how much if all that needs doing? around £700. this isn't a generalised statement, it is the quote i was given (c class c230k)
what dealer did you use I'll give them a ring? don't mercedes dealers have set prices, what car do you have and what is a E+ service?

I'm not even sure they do that? I looked at it and all I could see was that they change the wipers.

The dealer described B to me as 'wheels off service'. I think that's where they take the wheels off, then ring you up and say 'while we've got the wheels off, shall we change the pads & discs?'

Some of are talking about C Class and some about E (which have different regimes) and the OP has an S Class.

My C Class has A & B services (A being an oil change, and, as far as I can tell, B being an oil change & new wipers). I checked the prices before I bought the car at 2 differently owned dealers, and at an MB repair centre. The price seems pretty standard at £250 for an A and £450 for a B. The repair centre said each would be about £50 cheaper if non-synthetic was used, but that impacts the ASSYST mileage.

In practice, I took my own oil and my local dealer did an A service for £150. I reckon the oil cost me £35.

John - maybe the E service on your car is equal to the A on mine, and they used Magnatec or similar. In which case £280 inc brake fluid is still pretty good.

I buy mine is Costco - Mobil-1. It was about £23 for 4L (have to buy two, of course) but it's a few months since I bought any, so it may have gone up.

There's online place http://www.opieoils.co.uk - the owners sometimes post on here, and will give a discount for forum members.
I bought 2 x 5L Motul MB specific 229.5 from them for about £50 delivered (again, prob dearer now). Seems odd buying oil by post, but it worked fine.

I use Mercedes-Benz South-West, the car is as specified in my Avatar thingie, and the price I paid is the actual price, not a 'quoted' alleged two year old price. I have no idea what this service actually entails but it was the service demanded by the ASSYST Plus.

As usual I was given a carrier bag containing oil, funnel and polythene gloves in case the car needed topping up with oil. I am NOT advocating the use of main dealers, I am NOT moaning about the use of independants, I am merely trying to give an honest account of my experience with main dealers. Our car had just been serviced prior to the recent GTG, so I was able to point out the carrier bag with the oil, funnel and gloves.

One hour to collect my car, then one hour back to the dealer, then there is the return journey so we are already looking at four hours labour costs of an employee. Then I had a courtesy car with free insurance for the day. Plus our car was valetted inside and out, and I got the oil, all for £280.

There might be an independant that can offer an equivalent service, but not near me and at these prices why should I loose my mobilio warranty?

They only take off diagonally oposite 1x front & 1x rear wheels, not even that if they can see brake pads through the wheel,
never trust a FSH car on the stamps alone, many people do not have the extras done and only pay for the stamp in the book. servicing is so lax now that serious faults often go unnoticed.

Just checked the invoice. Shell Helix Plus S2?? No idea if that is good bad or indifferent?

This is an extremely good price, had i have been quoted this i may have considered having the main dealer do a service or two (purely for the warranty)4 hours labour around here would be more than that before any parts wre added, as it happens I do all my own servicing and repairs, the money i save will pay for the regular rust repairs (although mercedes are considering my latest claim without FMBSH)
