A friend has an S350 CDI (in France), and managed to get the windscreen cracked.

Replacement is free under his insurance cover, however the glass fitter told him the new windscreen will come without the various fittings e.g. rain sensor etc, and they will move these across from the old windscreen.

Is this correct? Or does a new MB windscreen come with all the fittings already in place?

Any advise will be much appreciated.

He need to make sure that glass is exactly the same colour as the old one,etc
Otherwise there will be problem with wipers, sensors won't work properly (had thus issue before on a merc and an audi)
Best recommendation would be original merc glass, specially as it is S class :-)

Any windscreen can be coded in using star. Even the MB one needs coding if you want the wiper sensitivity spot on.

Well he was told by the fitters that they were 'not allowed' to supply and install original MB glass, but promised him Pilkington glass which is Mercedes OEM.

To everyone's surprise (including the glass fitter himself) the part delivered was an original MB windscreen complete with the correct MB Part Number.

They moved the various fittings across from the old glass, though no STAR was used in the process.

Time will tell...

It will be fine.
