SAAB 9-3 2.2TiD Vector

Friend has one as a company car.... keeps braking down, clutch, turbo, alternator - you name it, it's broken at some point.

Nice for a dressed up Vectra though....

I can recommend the Saab Scene Forum.
I used it when I had my 2000 9-3 2.0t coupe.

I recall the general feeling towards the 2.2 diesel was that it is a reliable engine, but now it's seen as old technology, being slower and higher emmisions that the 1.9 diesel.

We run two of the later models 1.9tdi and neither have missed a beat. Both later cars, mine having now covered 33,000 miles in 16 months.

Can't comment on the previous model.

Doesn't that say it all though?

We actually leased Saab's as we got them cheaper than Vectra's....actually astonishingly cheap. The business deals available are hard to beat.

However I don't fully get this obsession with "dressed up Vectra" type comments....if you want to be pedantic, the engine is Fiat sourced, there are plenty of GM parts on them...but that's globalisation.....

Similar comments are made about the Bentley GT and Jag X-Type. But interestingly not about Audi's being dressed up Skoda's. I guess it's all down to your personal point of view. From where I'm sitting Saab's offer great value for money on the second hand market and the Vectra relationship doesn't bother me.

In normal everyday driving who can really tell a 9-3 shares the same floor as a Vectra? For me it's the interior and exterior styling that principally defines a car. In that respect the 9-3 is different to the Vectra.

Cheap as chips - can't believe some of the used prices for 12-24 month old cars - they seem proportionatly much worse than other similar size/type cars.

I've got a 1.9TiD (company car) , i've had it since 2006 and havent really had any major problems. Not sure about the 2.2TiD but the electrics and interior has been fine.

The 2.2TDi engine was SAAB's own first attempt at a diesel engine carried over from the previous 9-3 model and had lots of teething problems. Not particularly well regarded being somewhat noisy, down on power and high emissions as has been said. Better to go for the later 1.9 Fiat designed diesel engined model if possible.

I suppose you only hear 'bout the horror stories, but my dad had one and he really wanted a Saab for ages, it had quite a harsh ride (17" wheels) and the interior was very plasticy, he always said the seats were comfy though.

Lasy year after a service he lost power on the way home and all the coolant leaked out, he got it towed to Saab and it required a new engine (apparantly something internal had given up) he got a new engine under warranty and part ex'd it against a new E-Class the day it came back!

Not the brand they once were (IMO)

My Brother had a 9-5 Aero hot auto, great car, every extra you could really want. Went well (too well for FWD) and cheap as chips. He also had a earlier 9-3 2.0LPt Convertible that he did 45K in no problems.

He had a parking sensor play up and one xeonon bulb replacement in 35K miles he owned it.

Makes me smile dressed up vectra? so what?

I so nearly leased a Aero HOt convertible at the time a £35K car for £350 a month.

Some great deals out there. Go on a Saab forum as lets be me honest people on here especially if never owned one will not give you great feedback...

Not sure thay ever were. My old Bosses had new 900Turbo's followed by 9000's

One of the turbo's cracked the head and both 9000's were rough and not very reliable at all.

I unfortunatly bought one of these a year or so back, kept it for three weeks and got rid quick, ended up in the W202 best car I've ever had warts and all.

Yeah, suppose, I think they were an alternative (albeit at a lower price point) to MB's and BMW's, especially in america where the discerning middle class did like them, I think with all turbo'd engines when they go wrong its usually severely.

I certainly won't miss them if no one finds a buyer, as stated before they are just redbadged Vauxhalls

And as for the 9-2x the yanks got and we didnt-
