Hi,
I have a 2009 CL500 and stupidly reset my Comand therefore wiping my sat nav from the car, When I insert the 2017 map update disc I got with the car I get firstly: current version -1 do you want to update to V15, when I select yes after a few seconds I get : Map update not possible, the DVD is being ejected, please refer to the operating instructions. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I think you need a pervious version to go from factory to latest

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, Do you mean the 2009 that the car would have had from factory?
Cheers
Yes.
Ask Comand on line, they can tell you exactly what to do.

Hi,

How did you do the reset ? Resetting the data from the user interface should not delete the map from the hard-disk.

Does your COMAND have the PCMCIA slot, or does it have the SD card slot ?

Cheers

Richard

Hi,
I pressed the reset in system settings and now it says to enter map disc as firmware has been updated. I have the PCMCIA slot.
thanks

That behaviour is unexpected :-) Normally firmware is only updated via Star Diagnosis (diagnostics system) and a DVD that is inserted when the diagnosis system has told you which DVD is correct for updating that system.

I am slightly worried you have a hard disk issue, but really it needs to be plugged in to Star Diagnosis and some more diagnosis done ..

And yes ,maybe you need to start with an older disk - but that is slightly strange on that version of COMAND - it could also need a firmware update if something odd happened when someone previously tried to update the firmware ..

Hi Richard,
I was surprised the it had seemingly wiped the Nav when resetting , all this was meant to do was reset to factory and not delete, It was all good before. is there anyway to test the HD??
Derek

Theres no test facilities available using the car's interface. Tests can only be done with the diagnosis system, and often it can be in-conclusive.

Wondering if the issue is linked to a bad consumer battery

Hi
I disconnected the battery and the nav started working again, the old one was still there, I put the recent disc in and it completed the full cycle. however when I went out later it was back to the start saying software has been updated please enter the map dvd.

Hi,
is there a separate battery from the one in the engine bay?
Derek

2 more, one behind the seats accessible via the trunk serving as auxiliary to the one at the front and another consumer battery in the cabin that is meant to maintain comand settings in case both batteries die. You need to access that from the side panel behind the glove box

Hi,
Do you think I should check the voltage on both? im guessing these could cause issues if weak. also noticed the date is wrong and I cant change it. Thanks for your help.
Derek

Sounds like you have firmware issues. I would suggest you disconnect all batteries to clear out any corrupted memory - dont know if that will wipe/brick your comand so perhaps do it with someone like Richard, if that doesn't help with your time issues either then it will be a good idea to re-flash the firmware. It might be quite a few things like new firmware was not permanent on the chip because something went wrong at that time, or the chip itself can no longer permanently reprogrammed or it wasn't permanent because of bad voltage from a pure microprocessor flashing point of view.

Hi,
So this morning the nav was working, i drove 20 miles with no issues, i stopped and came back 5 mins later and it was back to asking me to enter the DVD. Strange!!

If you are sure your battery is OK, then get it diagnosed.
