ScanGuage II

I don't think your 210 has an OBD port. There might be an adapter for the MB diagnostic port though.

Hi

Thanks guys to be the bearer of bad news but you are correct i just checked this morning and i just have a blank space. I have paid through ebay although there is a 30 day money back guarantee. I have also asked would it work through the 38 pin connector with an adapter, hope they come back soon. Pity it would have been a great toy.
All cars post 1996 have the OBD II plug in the USA but not Europe, but sure i know that now.

Thanks again,

230K

Yes it is possible to read the codes from the 38 pin just make sure that the adaptor is compatible with the scanner

Hi

I dont really want it for reading codes more for instant mpg, average mpg, boost pressure, air intake temperature etc etc. Just wanted a toy to play with on those long trips.
The adapter mightnt give real time infor like that??

The ODB port is an annoyance because if your car was supplied to the USA instead of the EU it would have been a legal requirement and therefore been fitted.

There is a very good chance that all MBs of the correct vintage will have the various feeds for the ODB port but unless supplied to the USA won't have it all going to the right places. It is possible that the diagnostic port contains the pins you need to make up an ODB port so if you were really interested you could either make up a harness to connect to the port or intercept the pins from underneath the port and make up a permanent ODB port in the correct location in the car - I have wondered about this myself.

The scangauge looks like a smart piece of kit and I fancied one for myself but I already have a replacement instrument cluster to install and this covers pretty much everything I would want from the scangauge, with the obvious exception of the code reader.

Realtime MPG is cool and IIRC it might be made a legal requirement for all vehicles in some countries to encourage more emissions-friendly driving. Any car I have had an MPG-meter in I have studied it intensely with the intention of getting the best MPG possible :) . I'm sure any investment in an MPG gauge would be paid for by fuel-savings in a matter of weeks if not days... ;)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Right

My ScanGuage arrived today and it is a fantastic piece of kit although it is not working correctly at tick over it only indicates 157rpm road speed is not regitering properl etc. I really need to know where the OBD2 USA cars get their feeds from.

Come on can anyone help me out.

Though I do not know how useful the info was I posted the connections up for Dieselman from what I could see this only coupled up the to the various engines

Thats the only info on the X22 connector

I've brought this to this thread so as to not use the classifieds inappropriately..

I have it of sorts and I was looking before you asked

I am still looking to see if there is something of more use

Thanks Tv.

I already have this info, what is means is that pin 4 is chassis GND, pin 5 is signal GND. (same thing in reality).
Pin 16 is live feed from the battery.

What I need is where does pin 7 and 15 receive their feeds from.
Pin 7 I believe is the ISO-K line taken from the engine ECU pin 50.

Pin 15 should be the ISO-L line, but where from and is it necessary at all.? Maybe not.

This is why I want a socket with flying leads.

230k you need to check the configuration of the adapter you have, it MIGHT work if pin 7 is fed from pin 4 of the 38 way MB socket and pin 15 from pin 15 of the 38 way MB socket, but I'm not sure what protocol they are giving out.

Pins 7 and 15 are not mentioned as far as I can remember I will go back and see where they all join into the main box.

If I can scan the document I will Email it to you, cant do until tomorrow

Just looking again it looks like the pin labelled N is pin 7 and is the ISO-K line.

As far as I can see this comes from the engine ECU pin 50, but maybe able to be collected from the 38 pin socket on pin 4.

Hi

I have tried (38 pin) 1,3,4,15 going to (ODB2) 4/5,16,7,15 but it still gives doesnt work correctly. Is there some sort of gateway that converts the signals??

Stumped!!:(

Though I am into electronics this is something that I have never studied and there are limits as to how much my head will take in.
I will look up what i have on the subject, the files are too large and complicated to copy

Hi 230K,
I have a W210 but with the CDI diesel. It has a 38 pin connector and I use it for all sorts of data collection. The pins are as follows (depending on what options you have):-
Pin 1 - GND
Pin 2 - +12v switched
Pin 3 - +12v constant
Pin 4 - Engine CDI
Pin 6 - ABS/ESP
Pin10 - Transmission ETC
Pin12 - Electronic Selector ESM
Pin15 - Instruments ICM
Pin16 - A/C TAC
Pin20 - Ignition switch EIS, OCP, LCP, PSE, SAM, DCMs
Pin28 - Parktronic PTS
Pin30 - Airbag AB
Pin34 - COMAND
Pin35 - Headlamps HRA
Pin36 - Heater Booster HB

However, these don't use OBD-II but mixture of ISO14230, ISDO9141 and MB specific protocols. I'm not sure what ScanGauge supports.

Rgds, P.

Hi

My 38 pin connector has wires in 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 20, 30 & 33.
ScanGuage supports; ISO, KWPS, KWPF, CANSF CANLF, CANSS, CANLS, PWM & VPW.

Anymore suggestions???

230k.

Any joy installing this yet, if not have you tried picking up the CAN connection, assuming the scangauge will run on that.

Hi

No luck, i think on our cars there is some sort of diagnostic module that is missing, all the Yank cars have an Engine Check light that we are missing. A neighbour has it because of problems with a RAV4 that nobody even Mr T cant sort so when i get it back i will continue with it but lost interest when i realised on the 38 pin plug that we were down on a connection or 2.

Did you buy one? Your welcome to try mine ( if i ever get it back) if you could get it to work.
