Hi all

Following on from my issues as described in the thread below:-

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=42005

I went to get the car's ecu reprogrammed to standard, just in case it had been remapped before I bought it. However, when the technician tried to program the system, he got a communication error 8.600. He tried repeating the process many times but got the same error every time.

MB's suggestion was to buy a new ECU, but of course it would be!

Any ideas of why this could be.

Also it got me thinking about the aftermarket remapping industry. To perform the SCN coding, the MB guys had to go online and get a special code. How do the aftermarket guys do it if they don't have the code?

- voltage too low
- diagnostic cable broken
- diagnostic out of date (software too old)
- fake system from Russia, China, Latvia
- Multiplexer is damaged

These are just the obvious things.

Thanks for the reply micro:-

i. Voltage too low - Battery booster/charger was attached.
ii. Diagnostic cable broken - All other functions were working.
iii. Diagnostic out of date - This years software.
iv. Fake system from Russia, China, Latvia - Official MB touchscreen system at Official MB dealer.
v. Multiplexer is damaged - Working other functions and on other cars

I have a nasty feeling it's to do with my car rather than the diagnostic system/software.

Independants can have a genuine STAR system too ;)

I believe there is a way around SCN coding if you know your German:rolleyes:

Thanks for letting us all know Gaydar.

The software has to be current with patches applied.
