A few years ago I bought some screen cleaner for my computers, which is now nearly finished. Just checked the prices and thought I'd see if a home made solution was possible.

The consensus seems to be 50:50 distilled water & isopropyl alcohol, with some saying a drop of washing up liquid.

Anyone know if washing up liquid (and I mean one drop per 50mls) is a good idea? I seem to remember that it has huge amounts of salt.

Thanks folks.

GVM this is a DIY thread....not yet more retail tales :) But thanks (I'll probably buy some)

balge, when you say degrades, is that the salt?

I think the 50:50 formula is best.

I've used Windolene Wipes for many years on my Apple Cinema Display without any problems.

I would recommend using nothing more than a damp microfiber cloth.

Computer LCD displays have a plastic coating so you shouldn't use any chemicals unlike CRT screens.

Detergent causes stress-cracking in the surface of many plastics - can't recall the process, something to do with ions... - long time since I studied it!
I was told only ever to use lightly damped (with water) cloth on screens, these new fangled micro-fibres seem quite good...
Not just the (slight ) chance of what ever you use on the screen reacting with it, but also the (probably even slighter) chance of one cleaner reacting with the next cleaner if a different type is used later. Depends how fussy you are I suppose...

Thanks all, I think it's distilled water in my empty (expensive stuff!) mini spray bottle from now on.

I've used a kids wet wipe, use a cloth to remove the excees moisture.

For really stubborn deposits nothing beats a Brillo pad.

I think you will find wire wool will work far better.
