Hi,

I have put my car in for painting this week and have been chatting to the painters about the two chrome trims around the screens and the two strips on the roof.
It's a 500E and I believe these should originally have been black semi-gloss anodised.
Mine have faded to a bronze colour fairly evenly so don't look 'bad' however, I would like to return these to original to go with the new paint job....
Are these parts available still from Mercedes at reasonable cost (compared to refinishing them) or would it be worth painting them back to black??

Thanks for any ideas,

Paul

I have painted these parts on my Petrel Blue car and it looks great. This is the neatest way as original parts are anodised and very expensive.

I needed a 'gasket' for the trim over the windscreen on my W201. The AA fitter brought along a new trim and it was bronze, like my existing one, albeit a little darker so we robbed the gasket from it and swapped over to my old one.

I'd be surprised then if they aren't still available for a W124. I can't imagine black fading to bronze so yours are probably the original colour. Wasn't the black trim just used on AMG and Brabus modified cars of that era?

Edit: just remembered, my S124 has the black trim (and it hasn't faded).
