Has anybody tried cleaning cloth seat covers off the car?

I need to partly dismantle the passenger seat to replace the child seat sensor and while the cover was off I thought about sticking it in the washing machine on a cool or cold wash.

I don't want to shrink it though.

Don't all rush to answer then

Anyway, I have answered my own question. took the passenger seat apart at the weekend and replaced the passenger recognition sensor. Tricky but not that difficult. Needs lots of patience though. The seat cover has a stiff cardboard sort of strip running around the perimeter and this is trapped in a groove around the base of the seat to hold it on. I didn't want to risk this going soggy and falling apart so I dunked the centre of the cover in the sink with plenty of washing powder but kept the edge mostly dry. I then rinsed it and bunged the thing in the washing machine and spun it dry.

The seat came up like new.

I also removed the drivers seat too and shampood the carpet. It's amazing how much dirt gets down between the front seats and the armrest where it is hard to clean with a normal vacumm cleaner. While I had the seat out I also replaced the brake pedal switch and cured the annoying ABS light.

I Now have a spanking interior and no warning lights on the dash :bannana:

good job, only just read this! but i to have done this on prev cars with cloth interior, cant get any better cleaning than that.
