Hi All,

Is there a way of knowing if I have self leveling/air rear suspension on my W211 E320 cdi estate ?

Is there a switch somewhere?

All W211 estates have self leveling rear suspension.

Just load it up start the engine and watch it rise

As above, all E class estates have auto self leveling rear suspension...there is no switch.

That's why it's called "self levelling"

..............however the 'Standard default level' can be altered if required.

FYI The Estate is designated the S211 not W211. :thumb:

Every estate car built by Mercedes , from the original 123 series onwards , have SLS .

Pretty sure my S203 doesn't have self levelling suspension. When its loaded up the gap between the wheel and arch gets pretty small and it stays like that when the engine is running.

Or am I misunderstanding something?

Only on the E-class.

C-class estates never had SLS as standard.

123/124/210 had hydraulic SLS, I think 211 onwards might be different - airmatic?

was it even ever an option?

I don't think so. Must be a cost thing, because SLS was available and used on the W201 - and the rear suspension setup is very similar to the W202 replacement as well.

I guess if you were really keen, it could be a retrofit idea :D

Just remembered this thread and meant to say that the handbook for my recently acquired S203 mentions SLS .

I'm not yet sure whether my car has it , although I did notice what looked like the pump used on other SLS systems mounted on the front of the engine ( I only had the covers off briefly whilst investigating the injector leak , so SLS wasn't uppermost in my mind ) . Nor did I look for a fluid reservoir .

Since my car does have a factory fitted towbar , the options may go together .

Must put the number into one of the VIN decoders and get the spec .

I believe that SLS uses the same pump as the power steering. There will be a pipe going into what looks like shock absorbers on the rear if it has SLS. Also you can see the spheres in the two rear compartments. Another give away is on the rear anti-roll bar, there is the height adjustment mechanism.
