My old W211 E220 estate, had it nearly a year but only a month till mot time and needs the following.

Probably new battery (see other drivel in other post)
Possible heater matrix (condensation inside and no heat from centre vents)
Rear right and front left abs sensors but would just replace all 4
Steering angle sensor (came up on the code reader as did the rest)
Passenger front door lock (sometimes opens from outside sometimes doesn't)
Whatever bushes, shocks/ air bags, discs/ pads etc or may need
Possible alternator incase the battery isn't getting charged properly.

And something else I don't remember.

So reading all that And what everything would cost, if it was you would cut your losses sell for spares etc or fix and keep.

Good old comfy barge that needs some cash spent on it or time to let go.

And possibly go for a later W211 E320 as I like the 211s but the 320 as we know is ideally suited to the size of it.

Depends. Worst time of the year to go DIY, but the HVAC system and rear wheel bearings would probably be the toughest job.

What is the year, mileage and how much money have you poured on it so far?

Better the devil you know. Unless you replace with something new/warranted, who knows what jobs the next one might need within a year? Thats my logic anyway

Yes worst time of year ok, it's an 05 187000 I haven't spent anything in it since getting it in March.
So this hvac/ heater matrix and back bearings are the worst.

Again that's true
I won't be getting anything new or nearl ynew with a warranty so that's out.
I know ie who knows what another will need.

Likely so.

Knowing what I know now I would get started with checking the alternator health. A stable alternator makes a huge difference on ESP attitude and overall braking capability of the car.

A good starting point is what is it worth and what does it cost to run?

The S211’s a brilliant car, but maybe there’s just a case for switching to a well maintained one on half the mileage & main dealer history

If it’s diesel there are a lot of ULEZ refugees looking for a new home.

I know I would get that checked too as yes it can and does play havoc with electrics as does a dodgy battery.

I can be quite expensive but I put it down to being old plus it's not had money spent on it in the last few years.

I thought about that also but as a few said above (and I agreed) sometimes better the devil you know but also its nearly at 200000 and what else will go.

Issue with ulez is that people that had a written off diesel now want 2k for it!

My point is not about write offs worth £2k

An immaculate, low mileage, well maintained E280 on 60k miles can be bought for just £5k

Like this one, on 64k miles, owned by the last guy since it was one year old. ( And probably now only sold on because of ULEZ)
Not facelift, a bit basic spec and needs a good clean but at less than 70k miles "is probably good for a few miles yet."

Yeah I agree

The heater is probably the duo valve; not the end of the world.
Just do what is necessary for the MOT, change the oil and filter and run it for another year.

If your budget can go to a later model, lower mileage 320, you should go for that. You've had this a year and it's a fair list of items to sort out already. If you can get it through mot without spending too much, do that, it'll be easier to sell.
