Service history?

Hi all. I'm looking at an E class and notice an independent dealer is offering attractive prices on theirs. However, on the service history of three of their vehicles it says they were serviced in June 2014. Now to my mind that suggests the car should have been serviced in June this year even if it's been sitting on a forecourt. Is this right?

They say they would service it before I picked it up but I'm not sure this is good enough. Surely the car wouldn't then have a FSH as the 12 month service would have been missed?

If this is right, then what do main dealers do when they have stock lying around for months. Do they actually service all their cars on time?

Thanks for your help

Unless it's an AMG service interval is 15k or 2yrs, whichever soonest.

Since 2008 service interval has been on mileage or every year for standard Mercedes cars.

How many miles have they done since June 2014. I wouldn't worry at all unless it was very high. After all, the big point is the oil change.

Don't see the major issue if the car has not covered the mileage interval, the whole annual thing is just a revenue stream from those cars that do not cover the service miles in one year.

I'd just be wary of the tyres if it's been sitting on them for months without movement ; also the battery which might have been deeply discharged over a period then boosted before you arrive ...

If a vehicle is due for a service, a garage won't service it until it has been sold. It's the same for the MOT.

Besides, when you pick the vehicle up, you'll know you'll get a full 12 months MOT, and won't need to service the vehicle for another 12 months, or the mileage limit, whichever comes first.

If a dealer did service a vehicle while it was on his forecourt, the potential buyer could easily lose a month or two. The CLS I bought was on sale for three months prior to my purchase. As it was, it still had 100 days before the ASSYST declares it needs a service, but if I had bought it when it was first advertised, I could have got an additional 90 odd days. Luck of the draw really.

I can't help thinking that the Mercedes 12 month service interval is a bit of a scam, I'm not taking mine in with 4k miles on the clock since the last oil change etc.

The car will be fine and I don't think it will be a problem when put in the perspective of the fact that you are buying a car without full MB service history. Don't get me wrong I'm not at all fussy about having full MB service history but you have to accept the value of a service history in the market place diminishes when it isn't full MB. If the cars is the right price and in good order I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think there is a price differential between having genuine MB services, or independent servicing, as long as you have evidence of a full service regime.

Besides, MB store their service reports in their computer systems, whereas independent servicing would provide an invoice with detailed work carried out, which is actually better for us, as we would have paper proof of what had been done.

I actually don't like the Service Report by MB because all it shows is the mileage and the date, and nothing else. An invoice would show everything that has been charged.
