Service Parts - Mercedes or Hengst / Bosch

Hi All,

Have a service due soon, got a few questions...

Is there any difference EXCEPT price for the following parts vs MB Original.

Air Filter - Bosch
Fuel Filter - Hengst
Oil Filter - Hengst

With ECP I can obtain 31% off at the moment, however if there is a difference in quality then Original it is.

Is it really the fact that the only difference is the box?

NO one can answer this question with certainty. Other than, perhaps, a Bosch or Hengst production-line worker...

MB will always say that the OE parts are made to 'their spec', so it is anyone's guess whether whoever makes the filters for MB also makes them to the exact same spec when selling to the open market (see same discussion re 'MO tyres').

So for complete peace of mind only original MB parts will do.

Said that.... I have some experience in the filter industry, and personally I can comfortable with Bosch filters, so use them happily. But this is a personal choice. i.e., I am not suggesting that's 'it's the same apart from the box', instead I am saying 'it's good enough for me'.

I have always used Bosch or other branded filters and have never had any problems. Although I would not use a filter from an unknown manufacturer.

I posted a similar question a short while ago and was told by ECP that Hengst are factory suppliers to some OEM.

Hengst are OEM for Mercedes filters. Bosch are OEM for some MB electronics but not filters as far as I know.

I recently bought some genuine MB parts from my local dealer .

Amongst them was an oil filter element which , on opening the box , had Hengst stamped on the end .

I have in the past also had Mann filters supplied by MB , as well as ATE brake parts , Bosch or Hella electrical parts along with sundry other branded items .
