SL350 (R230) clunk when starting

So my 2006 SL350 has developed a clunk when the engine fires at the end of the cranking process.

Seems to only do it when cold

Any ideas - someone has suggested torque converter ??

It could possibly the starter motor not disengaging properly after starting, in might be a matter of removing it, cleaning and lubricating the shaft, before refitting, at least it won’t cost you anything, if you can do it yourself of course.
