Dear all

You will be glad to hear that I bought that SL500 a few weeks back. So far so good - I love it! Thanks to all for the wise words of advice. Now considering a roof stand. A few questions for your learned attention.

How much are these?

How big are they?

Presumably it is worth having?

Presumably a stand for an older 500SL (ie an 80's model) will work for a 96 model?

no the older hard tops are different...

i bought one for my R107 ages ago for £25 (from the mercedes club gazette), its just a steel frame on (now rusted) wheels..

You could just as easily lean the hard top against a wall with some protection underneath..

it depends if you need to move it a lot?

you can also get the very fancy ones that attach to the ceiling in your garage and they hoist the top up..

The bottom edges of the 129 roof are prone to corrosion so if you do keep it on the garage floor, do not just stick it on a blanket or cloth, you must use some insulation. The trolleys on Ebay go around £75-100

There are various types of stand ... some fold, and others don't. I have the latter and it's extremely useful, my hard top goes on it in a padded bag for additional protection.

aah my C240. Soon to be popping up on ebay.

ooops wrong thread.....damn that wine.

Luckily that C240 has excellent hardtop storage, as it's carried around on the car all the time ;)
