Hi All.
I have a 2004 SL55 AMG. I currently have the engine management light on. What are the usual causes for this? I have been told about the secondary air pump. This has been tested and I have been told it is working fine. Can this still be the fault?

Thanks in advance
Steve

There are many causes of this light being on.

It needs to be plugged into a Star to see what has been causing the fault (fault codes)

Must agree with Olly yet again, with any warning lamp there is only one way to rectify the fault - through proper diagnosis.

The best way forward is to find a recommended specialist or good main dealer near to your location and book in for a diagnostic session. Get the right place and it may be as little as £20 to do this!
I, like many others, charge by the hour, and some faults are very easy to pinpoint...

Name your location and you may get a recommendation from a forum member.

Hi Guys. Thanks for the replies. The problem with diagnostics is that they will tell you the end result and not always the cause. Steve

The end is usually a good place to start when you need to find the beginning.

Can you expand on that Steve? Not entirely sure what you mean.

My way of doing things is all about communication.
I am always happy to have customers in on diagnostic sessions - many really enjoy this - and I will explain everything in as much detail as they want.
When it comes to actually doing the repair work (after finding what needs to be done - diagnostics) I will always quote parts and labour, and advise of the prognosis from there on.
