The main reason for writing off these sort of vehicles when they are only cat D, is because they have to provide a like for like replacement vehicle during the repair, after an assessor has been and then approved it, then the parts have been ordered etc, this can go on for weeks. I have a mate who supplies such vehicles, and an SL55 AMG would be about £350 a day!!! Add that up for 4 weeks, add it on top and you`ve just written the car off

Not sure where you are getting the prices from for an SL55. I looked for over 3 months and the cheapest (straight one undamaged) I found was £39995.00 Year 2002 with 55k mileage.

Usual prices start at around £42K upwards.
