Sl60

How weird, I saw this car this morning while sitting in a traffic jam on the M25.

Looked nice from 20 yards.

Beautiful motor.

Do these cars actually produce 440bhp? For a 6l engine, it's more than possible naturally but Merc officially stated something like 380bhp.

I've heard this was because they didn't want to out do the sl600 but is it actually true? Has anyone ever tested a standard car?

Looks nice, are they replica wheels?

Why replicas on such a low volume actual AMG car....?

Probably because the originals are worth so much they get sold off.

410hp is more likely.

I'd be tempted if the interior weren't blue :(.

yes, true, power understated so as not to undermine flagship V12 sl600.

Sl600 will officially produce 418bhp without cats. The AMG M119 won't manage much more than 400 if that.....all that's been done is bore out of block, fitment of a 560 crank, and AMG camshafts, plus LH/EZL remap to fuel the big bore. All of the above would probably add circa 70-80 bhp tops. Take off the cats and you might should get to 410 - 420bhp, the cats on these cars were also AMG free-flow versions so not as restrictive as stock MB cats.

I quite like the blue interior.

Just WRONG to have a real AMG without real AMG wheels!

No AMG exhaust, replica alloys....

Can anyone tell if thats even an AMG kit? Cant tell for sure because of the dark coloured pics.

AFAIK, the R129 SL60 AMG didn't come with an AMG exhaust or bodykit, unless specified as an extra cost item.

Probably worth doing a search, I remember it being discussed on here before :)

FWIW, I think he wants £15.5k for it. With non-original wheels/Nankang tyres and being a pre-facelift model (interior), is that a bit optimistic?

Bodykit should be standard, exhaust wasn't - who knows why not...

560 crankshaft was fitted to the early SL60s - the later ones had a bespoke unit. Conrods and pistons were lightweight too weren't they?

Yes - body kit, split-rim wheels, and plain rear box were all standard on the SL60. A pre-facelift car like that would have had 3-piece AMG wheels; the ones on it look like replica 2-piece. Not a good sign that the original wheels have been sold separately.

Let me clarify clearly - all 6.0 M119s use a 5.6 M117 crankshaft and 100mm bore - but remember, they do NOT just go straight in, they are machined to fit. All M117 5.6 cranks have to be machined to fit, so they are all 'bespoke'...but they ALL start life as a 5.6 m117 crank.

Looks like any other SL, doesn't appear to be anything special about that car at all other than the fact that it has a 6ltr V8, or does it? Actally I can't see anything on the car apart from the badge on the boot to prove that it is the genuine thing. I thought all AMG cars had at least 'AMG' on the instrument cluster? Also he says it has orthopeadic seats, can anyone see the controls by the side of the seat? I can't understand why anyone would have bought such a car in that dreadful colour and trim.

Not entirely true - the early cars did have machined 117 crankshafts, however the later M119.982 engines had them made specifically for that application.

This is very interesting. You say these later ones were made from a different material the older ones as well? Would this have meant later cars produced more power than earlier cars as a result?

I believe the SL 600 AMG version produced 440bhp with 450BHP possible for the export version.

I got this info from the German AMG Owners Club newsletter on the R129 AMG V12 models:-

The 7.0 AMG engine made 496nhp:-
ein Hubraum von 7 Litern erreicht. Dieser Motor erreichte eine Nennleistung von 496 PS bei 5.500 U/min und ein maximales Drehmoment von 720 Nm bei 3.900 U/min.

The 7.3 litre SL73 made 525bhp or 565bhp in Sultan of Brunei spec:-

A very rare little know derivative of the AMG SL's was the SL36 with the 3.6 litre unit from the E36/C36 in 1995:-
Im R 129 erreichte dieser Motor (M 104 E 36) eine Nennleistung von 272 PS bei 5.750 U/min und ein maximales Drehmoment von 385 Nm

why is the ebay ad removed!!
