SLK 250

A friend has a SLK 250. His auto transmission oil was showing low on the dipstick.. He went to the local Halfords store and after looking in the book they gave him EP80 ?
Can this be correct for an auto box ?

I take it he has a 5 speed gearbox if it has a dipstick ?
Did he check the level , by measuring it hot (after a 30 min drive) with the engine running on a flat surface ?

He did check the level with a dipstick and it’s showing low.
I thought most were checked while hot and running ?

I have advised him to take it in for a Gearbox service with new strainer and oil but just checking.
The oil is very dark

Yep they are all checked with the oil hot and and engine running .
What mileage is he on and when was the gearbox last serviced ?

It’s about 78000 miles. There is some service history but noting on the gearbox.
So is the thick oil wrong ?

If the existing gearbox oil is the red stuff , then it’s MB spec 236.14 ATF .
Fuchs ATF 4134 is the stuff .
