I wonder If anyone can help with regarding tracker?
My insurance say it has to be fitted to insure for theft and are offering a good price of £270 fully comp, other insurance places want £470 but I dont think its fitted, so whats best to do?Is tracker worth it?The car is a r reg slk230.

Many thanks.

The 470 price is without tracker btw.

Pay the £470. Tracker + subscription + fitting cost more than £200. Its more cost effective IMO to go with the higher quote.

Hello

I cahnged for a bm 330 convertible to an ML and my insurance company wanted a tracker on the ML ? yet a convertible (canvas roof) no problem??

I just rang round, now with privaledge, cheapest car I have ever insured and no tracker needed.

Ring round if I were you.

Cheapest tracker I have found is £295 fitted including subscription.

http://www.vehtech.co.uk/tracking.html?gclid=CNKdtqaP9pICFQkWQgod-nccDw

It does not say if that is annual or lifetime though, although I suspect it is first year only.

I would shop around on the insurance front, before making a commitment.

But what if Mr Raw keeps the car a few years, then it will be worth fitting a tracker.

tracker

Thanks folks, very helpfull, esure seems the best...costing more than the bmw i had...but i want the slk:)

I still doubt it. Tracker costs c.£300 to subscribe/year. By taking the higher quote he is still in the money by £100. And that excudes the purchase of the unit + its fitting.

One was found for £295 and thats cheap. Still £95 down

Mare

Having a mare with insurance.None of the big boys will touch it unless tracker is fitted?I dont want tracker as the cars ok worth 6 maybe 7k tops.

Any decent insurance ref's out there?dont inc direct line or churchill:)or adrian flux.

Insurance

I will recommend Swift. It is all online. Cheapest quote for me.

Try a comparison site like confused or money supermarket (both .com)

I know admiral didn't want a tracker on any of my prior cars when DL etc did.

I think it important to get a good insurance company and not go for cheapness. Tracker offer a lifetime subscription which may or may not be worth considering.

My own thoughts are that I would not want my stolen car back! But that is a personal observation.

I also can thoroughly recommend Direct-Line, but others might disagree

John

I have an ML an SL60 and an 500SL all with NU direct and not a whiff of a Tracker.....that said it might be down to your location. Had a Tracker twice and would not willingly have one again.

Tracker lifetime subscription used to be £300 full stop, or £109 per year. Newer fancier products may demand a higher subscription though - don't appear to have prices on the website these days.

What people don't often know is after three years susbcription you can asked to be switched to the life time 'free' rate. ;)

I would never get a tracker because if they steal it they can keep it I do not want it back. Shop around for a decent quote they are out there.

I've got my SLk insured with Esure. They didn't want a tracker...

Try £140 a year subscription not £300

mine costs £10/month, not too bad I think for the peace of mind it offers me.

I usually insure with more than - good prices & cover seems OK.
However, renewal due soon. Just done a search on confused.com & best prices are from Tesco Value and Priviledge.
Havn't had time to check the small ptint yet.

axa

Went with AXA in the end, put my wife on the policy and it came down a bit,so all done, many thanks to eveyone, but i think if it was a new slk then i'd prob have a tracker.:)
