Hi All,

I have a problem with my Sat Nav in my C220D W205 2014 (64 plate).
It's a NTG5E. Software version: 18/21.0 41.21. Other info: n5 A V 1 (in case that all helps).

It has become very sluggish, keeps freezing for a few seconds - sometimes longer, it then kicks back in. It's very erratic.

I can't find out how to reset/reboot it - I've tried pressing the eject button for 10 seconds or so but I think that's for a different system.

Called in to MB in Stockport who basically said that a software update 'might' do it and they could book me in at a cost of £175.00! Wow!

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated before I bite the bullet.

Unfortunately, a firmware update to your infotainment unit can only be via the STAR diagnostic computer, and while the software itself is free, the dealer will charge for their tech's time.

You could try an independent specialist with MB STAR who might be willing to do the software update for less.

You didn't say if your Infotainment system is the higher-end COMAND NTG5*2 with the built-in navigation, or the entry level Audio20 with the optional Garmin Map Pilot on SD-Card.

If the former, you may have a hardware fault with the internal storage (where the navigation software and maps are stored). If the latter, it is worth buying a new Garmin Map Pilot SD-Card and see what happens.

In either case, power-cycling the infotainment unit by removing the fuse is always a good first step.

Thank you for your help.

I have spoken to my indie MB specialist who informed me told me that it would have to be done through MB.

I'm not sure which system I have but I think it's the latter as I have a Garmin SD card in the slot.
Any clues on how to find out would be great.

Where would I buy a new SD card?

I've seen this on ebay but not sure if it's legit or not:

If it is I'd be more than happy to give it a go.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

You can find out which system you have by putting your VIN into an online VIN decoder and checking the Datacard in the 5xx options section.

Alternatively, when you switch on the engine, COMAND will say "Do not let COMAND distract you...." while Audio20 will say "Do not let the SYSTEM distract you...."

Regarding your Indie, he's incorrect, many Indies do have genuine MB STAR and will be able to perform a firmware update, I.e. it's not a 'dealer only' job.

Thanks so much for the info - really helpful.

I'm almost certain it's the Audio20 system - I'll check shortly.

Did the ebay thread seem ok to you or do you know where I can get the correct SD?
