Yet another tech purchase...... :D Well, I got a nice bonus last week, so it was the right thing to do.

I have been trying to get a PSP for ages, but they've not been the easiest things to get. I wanted to order from Asia, but didn't want the risk of CC fraud after my last distant transaction led to some 'interesting' activity on my account. Most places in the UK are struggling under the load, but I found a place called EasyGadget (www.easygadget.co.uk) referred to on a forum who claimed to have them in stock for £199 (Japanese value pack).

Entertainingly they were right under my nose - literally less than 100 yeards from my front door in East London! Top group of young South East Asian guys and girls with customer service that you rarely see anymore. I made an appointment to collect some today, and arrived earlier than expected. They couldn't have been nicer to me and nothing was too much trouble. Their prices are good and they offer local warranty - very important for imports like these.

Anyway - more this evening - the sexy little device is on charge right now.

If anyone wants a PSP go and see these guys - Scan are charging way more and offer no warranty - Electric Birdland are straining under the load and have no stock (and don't return emails or calls).....

Ask for Nicholas and tell them that I sent you! Nothing in it for me, but they deserve to do well.

Interesting, may pop down tomorrow on the way home from work....

They are in Waterfront Studios - just tell them at reception that you are looking for Easygadget. Call to check stock first. I wanted 4 or 5 today, but could only get 2. Have to go back on Monday for some more. :-)

Why so many? You selling them in the office :D

You really are BEGGING to start a flame war aren't you; :P I'm not (totally) gonna start as I really should be studying for tomorrows exam, but please please please check your PSP for dead pixels. Around 60% of generation 1 JAP psp's had dead pixels, around 45% of generation 2 JAP psp's had dead pixels. American PSP's were the luckiest with 40% and EU I don't have figures yet.

Michele
(if only you had bought a DS...)

Actually I think I may wait, off to Dubai next week lets see what sort of deal I can swing over there...

I don't care about dead pixels - they are an acceptible allowance in my book. It's going to get scratched within about an hour of me playing it, so care factor is zero.

DS is rubbish. Big, ugly, useless, boring and #1 reason not to buy one: NO GT4!

;-)

With you on that one, my mates got both PSP kicks ass!

I finally fired it up last night when I got home from drinking down near Covent Garden with my wife's work buddies. WOW!

No dead pixels, awesome sound, awesome graphics, etc. I got Minna no Golf, which is about the best fun golf game I've ever seen. The wireless LAN part is misbehaving at the moment, but I think it is because I am using 128bit WEP at home rather than 64.

Just had a giggle figuring out what PSP stood for. ;) Definitely not with it (me that is)

Thanks for the interesting link,
John

Brought it into the office today - every man and his dog coming to see me. :-)

GT4 is probably the only reason at the moment; but if you like replaying the same games again and again; the same concepts to infinity and the same style to boredom, I guess the psp is the way to go....

Anyone heard of lik-sang's new OS for the DS? Its basically a "game" that emulates the PalmOS on the DS, had a CF card slot so you can slide in your GPS, Camera etc.... (no, its not out yet).

I just got my media player for the DS(£15 from eBay), I was quite amazed at the amount of videos a gig (on a CF card) can store! I managed to fit 5 entire films!

I have mucked around with the DS, and I am sorry there is just nothing impressive about that unit *to me*. I am sure that plenty of people love it, but I have little more than respect and certainly no desire for it.

Two Nintendo fan mates have both returned their DS units after feeling disappointed with them. Says it all in my book. They've played with my PSP this morning and are jumping for joy - will be collecting their units Monday.

I quite like Nintendo, and have owned many of their consoles, but the DS is a DiSappointment!

LOL, sad. I am a Nintendo fan (currently trying to complete my collection, but I have realised that the NES had TOO many games....)
I had the exact opposite experience, I returned my psp due to the sheer quantity of dead pixels (I was one of the unlucky ppl with more than 15 dead pixels, all nice and visible in the middle)

WOW! 15 dead is really poor. I read some horrible reports of the Korean launch where over 9200 written complaints have already been received. It's true that their QC is less than stellar.

Apparently they'll replace anything with more than 4.

They will? Since when? I emailed Sony and I got a quite courteous reply stating that dead pixels are something "normal and to be expected" on a tft screen. Also "not to expose the screen to direct sunlight" as it would damage the screen further... (note, that 30minutes after getting the reply I brought my console back)

my lad has a DS & a PSP - the PSP is awesome - plays movies etc very cool. both bought off ebay from a seller in Hong Kong. No reported problems with either

Should have as mentioned it last week when I was in the US.... they were $300 odd with a choice of 3 or 4 free games and a movie bundled in.

I nearly bought one but wasnt sure about compatability issues.

The trick with PSPs - the games are region free, however there is a standard caveat that online features may differ across regions. The UMD movies are region coded, so two options: either buy Japanese now (same region as UK) or buy US now and constantly import movies prior to their UK release.

Mate and Boss came over tonight to collect - another 2 with no dead pixels! Another two happy people - one playing Fifa and the other playing Metal Gear Acid.
