Only got the car on Saturday and somebody has hit my dirvers door mirror tonight. Narrow road with a van coming at me - no problem, but some idiot in a car behind was out on my side and walloped the mirror.

Glass is broken but hanging on and now held in place with some tape, inidcator repeater lense is broken, but all indicator lights in place and working. Mirror still adjusts and folds properly.

Can anybody advise on whether mirror glass and lense can be replace without needing a whole new assembly?

W209 CLK Avantgarde is the car.

Really sorry to hear this. The motor is so new to you to. I'm sure one of the gurus will be along shortly with the information.

You can buy just the glass and the lens, not big money either.

Lens A2308200821, glass depends on if it's an auto dimming glass...

mm, afraid it's all too easily done on those roads, I used to cover all the backroads, taw green, sticklepath, up to the camp and around every day, and every day met some asshole who couldn't drive and didn't know the size of their car.

I used to drive coaches around those roads- this incident happened coming out of Star Cross on the Mamhead road. It was wide enough to have a white line, therefore wide enough for 2 cars, or even as we proved 1 car and 1 van.

My interior mirror is auto-dimming. The door mirror looks like standard - its broken but no sign of any toxic gunge coming out. Am I right in thinking thatshow autodimming works....toxic gunge?

If the mirror glass has a black plastic surround its auto dim.

You're more likely to find someone with a spare replacement on here if you can post a picture showing what yours looks like.

Thanks for that. Had a quote for glass and lense so going to try that option 1st - save paintint etc

Problem sorted! Mirror glass was auto dimming, but replaced with standard one (over £200 for auto version). Indicator lense replaced too!
