Some good news for motorists

My guess is that the "postponement of the planned increase to help families at a difficult time" is actually an attempt to see if the volume can be driven back up to a level that restores the lost tax take. But then I'm just a cynic... ;)

This cynic concurs with your cynicism

Surely if they wanted us burning more fuel, motorway NSLs would go up and a lot of 50 limits in areas that used to be 60's would be 60 limits again.

I used to think that, but the government is exactly encouraging us into driving, which is good, the roads are busy enough thank you very much.

I wouldn't get too carried away boys!

Tiz only postponed till Jan 2013! :(

Last nights news reported that all Asda stores across the country would be joined in not sellng petrol for more than 1.27.7 as though this was some amazing feat.
I drove past Sainsburys today where it was 1.25.9

Yeah it's great that the price has been frozen but what really gets me is the speed of which they put the prices up compared to the the much slower speed they decrease it. Oil is getting cheaper so why not bring it down further?

It's nice to get some good news in this area, as motorists we seem to get a pretty poor deal.
How long it'll stay 'low' is another matter though.
I wouldn't be surprised if the government have found that the huge profit coming in from the vast price increases they piled on have led to less people using fuel, and generally crippling the economy as people can't afford to drive any more, and everything is going up as a result of the prices. Maybe they feel that by lowering it they'll help the economy overall and increase fuel consumption again.

It's not all that long ago that I used to watch the litres figure on the pump rising before the pound figures, then eventually it went over £1/ltr, how terrible that was. We can only dream of that now though! It may have dropped compared to what is has been a few months ago, but compared to just a few years ago it's still very expensive. In fact, I can remember the big fuel strike many years ago, wasn't that when it hit 0.70p/ltr or thereabouts...?
