Some Good Some, er, Not!

The flat black CLS is not even paint, it's a sticker over the top! It's all the rage here....every thing from Nissan patrols to SLR's are covered in it. And looks damn good too.

i like some of the 80/90's cars but lowering these old mercs from 60/70 is just wrong in my view

where are the rear door handles:eek:

why did the guy with the yellow W140 paint rust on it? just buy a W210 and the rust comes for free!!!

I do like the polycarb wheels, would melt under the heat if really used but different for a show...

All I can say is that they don't use the cars in Northamptonshire, the road calming devices, speed bumps, would rip the bottom of the cars in seconds.

shaved door handles have been a custom trick since the 50's, most people did the front ones as well and either mounted a hidden switch or modified the remote central locking to open the drivers door instead of just unlocking it, harder to get away with in the UK now as the MOT requires the doors to be openable from outside in the event of an accident.

Most of em will have air suspension on em so they can be jacked up a bit.

Is it just me or do the old cars look really stupid when sitting so low?
They just look like they are really clapped out & all suspension gone...

Also the orange one (not sure what model afraid :o ) looks like a ford cortina from behind- not good on a classic MB!

Thought this one looked good:

I can't see how cars in which a fair proportion of the wheels is conceaded in the arches due to being lowered is cool in anyway.

Some of the cars there are nicely done but some are beyond the realms of tasteful.

The nicest pic is the one of the 190 at the Motor Show launch - it makes the W123 alongside look very dated.

A slight drop can make a car look more dynamic, but when you drop it so much you can't even drive it, well, what's the point?? Or is it just me?

Most of the really low ones are low riders, the suspension can be jacked up and down either using pneumatics or hydraulics so they are perfectly driveable, its a looks thing, some people like 4x4 off roaders that never go off road, great big wheels and arches, gold plated badges, built in satnav, rain sensing wipers or parking aides while some people like to cruise low and slow, tis all about freedom of expression. :)

Have some educational pictures and tell me that your not at least a tiny bit intrigued. :)

Err, no

Nice car, but not the comedy suspension

Downsides to comedy bags: no boot, extra running weight, poorer fuel economy, expensive & higher maintenance costs...

Just mho; each to their own

Looks like that car has a serious ADS problem :D

handy for picking out stones from tyre treads

Some of us would rather pay extra fuel to cart around a few pumps (pneumatics are quite light other than the air tank as the pipes are all plastic, the compressors are fairly small and the rubber airbags replace the coil springs) than massaging chairs, electric mirrors, gigantic alloys and beepers to tell us how close we are to things. :P ;)

quite a few production cars come with air suspension these days and mercedes were doing it back in the 70's on the big limos.

I tend to flit between high speed, luxury and slow cruisers with my projects, cant quite decide one way or the other, went quite quick with the last one, so this one is gonna be a nice sedate cruiser.

Fair enough.
A classic car as name suggests is classy & tends towards the subtle. I think this jars rather with independently adjustable airbags.
Yes having variable suspension for ride comfort & for going off road would be useful, but can't see any useful point of having the the car being able to sit 1" off the ground unless one is very short, or being able to angulate the car to 20degrees, unless you park on a steep hill(just hope there is not a 40yr old park brake) & don't want to spill your drink...

Dropping your car onto the floor is a fairly good anti theft device as it makes it very difficult to move, also in my case i dont have a dropped kerb to get onto my driveway so being able to move it up a few inches will help, besides, who says it has to be usefull?

Spoilers that pop up up at 70mph, alloy wheels, chrome bumper inserts or 3 pointed chrome stars are not usefull but we like those things, cant go through life judging stuff on how usefull it is, its fine to not like stuff, but you cant dismiss things based on usefullness or the whole art world becomes pointless, these things give some of us pleasure while others are more interested in gadgets or speed.

I'd say most of these cars are not daily drivers!!

Just for show, but what a show :D

I saw a matt black SLR a couple of weeks ago, it looked ok from a distance but when you got up close it wasn't so good. Also when i opened the door and it was still silver in the door shuts, that spoils it a little

Now I have C36 front bumper, I have my registration plate in the window!! Dont want to ruin my front end!
